Ah, marriage. It has its ups and downs, but most people would agree that it is one of the pinnacles of modern society. There are around 2.5 million weddings a year in the United States, and, as you can imagine, not all of these weddings go off without a hitch.

Sure, some are the picture of a Disney fairytale, but others devolve into a brawling, messy, hilarious disaster that turns “I Do” into “I Don’t.” This list is dedicated to that latter category. Read through for some truly wacky wedding stories featuring brides, bridesmaids, grooms, and groomsmen behaving unbelievably badly.

1. Bridal Bouquet Causes Plane Crash

Est. Cost of Incident: $15,000-$100,000*
Wedding Continued: Yes

When you read this story, you might think that no one could possibly be this unlucky. Alas, for Isidoro Pensieri, it appears that her romantic Tuscan countryside wedding was the cause of a plane crash due to an ill-conceived idea to launch a bridal bouquet from a plane.

Italian police told NBC that the flowers didn’t fall to the ground when Pensieri threw them—they were sucked into the rear rotor of the tiny plane. When the engine was blocked, the plane crashed, leading the bride to sustain two broken legs. The pilot, thankfully for him, sustained much lighter injuries.

2. Bridesmaid Shows Up Wearing Her Wedding Dress

Est. Cost of Incident: N/A
Wedding Continued: Yes

Someone on Reddit went to a wedding where one of the bride’s bridesmaids had gotten married just a month earlier. For some reason, this bridesmaid thought it would be a good idea to wear her wedding dress to the reception.

The wedding party told her to change back, to which the bridesmaid responded with individualized insults, each delivered loudly at the head of the buffet line (yes, she was drunk). It wasn’t until the other bridesmaids locked her in the bathroom and threatened to beat her up that she agreed to change out of her wedding dress. She did leave early, and the rest of the wedding reception went off without a hitch.

3. Dock Disaster Ends with Wedding Party in Lake

Est. Cost of Incident: $7,000*
Wedding Continued: Yes

In 2014, HLN dropped this wet blanket onto anyone who had designs on a whimsical dock wedding. An entire wedding party with over a dozen people was standing on a rickety wooden dock. A few seconds into the posing, the dock decided it had had enough.

The dock collapsed, sending the entire party into the water. Photographer Megan Fritze, who was working the wedding, said that this disaster took place before the bride and groom even said, “I do.” Luckily, the party was able to dry off in time for the wedding to go off without a hitch. To watch this incredibly cringe-worthy footage, go to HLN’s YouTube channel.

4. Bride Makes Mistake Of Having Her Dog As The Flower Girl

Est. Cost of Incident: $100*
Wedding Continued: Yes

Having your dog be in your wedding seems cute, and it looks good on Instagram, but the reality of it is a bit different than the virtual world would have you think. Dogs don’t know what weddings are, and they don’t care either way.

One Redditor’s brother and sister-in-law had their dogs act as their “flower girl,” walking down a flower-strewn aisle. Everything went fine until, midway down the white runner, the dogs had to go to the bathroom, giving the photographer more than they bargained for. If you’re thinking about having your dog in your wedding, think twice.

5. The Bride & Groom Get Tasered

The couple that gets tasered together stays together, or whatever the saying is. When Anna Pastuszwska and Andy Somora got married, sparks flew—literally. The wedding started off as a dignified beach ceremony.

It then became a Cops episode when guests got too rowdy during the reception. DListed reports that guests were throwing things through windows and tearing up the local gallery where the reception was being held. The gallery owner called the cops, and, when the bride and groom got aggressive with police who arrived on the scene, both parties got tased and spent their wedding night in super-romantic separate jail cells.

6. Bride’s Bad Joke Cancels Wedding

Est. Cost of Incident: $20,000-$25,000* (Average Cost of Wedding)

When Tina Albrecht got married to her husband, Dietmar Koch, in 2007, she should have left her weird sense of humor at home. It can be hard to keep a straight face under pressure, but Albrecht took it too far, and her joke got the wedding canceled.

She and Koch got married in Austria, which has strict laws against “forced marriages.” When the registrant asked Albrecht if she took Koch as her husband, she jokingly said, “I don’t.” Unfortunately, by law, the entire wedding had to be scrapped, all guests sent home, and the unhappy couple couldn’t try again for ten more weeks. The average cost of a wedding is about the same as a Ford sedan, and all that money went down the drain with two simple words.

7. Bride Gets Arrested For Fraud

Est. Cost of Incident: Unknown

Michigan police had been hot on Tammy Lee Hinton’s trail for three years, but it was hard to pinpoint exactly where she was. The cops got a break when, three years after Hinton went on the run for fraud, she popped up in Florida, where she was getting married.

Apparently, Hinton had forgotten about her criminal charges, deciding that Florida was her safe haven. She got a rude awakening when police staked out City of Zion Ministries. They swooped on Hinton and her new beau as soon as they walked out of the church, putting handcuffs on Hinton and sending her straight back to a Michigan jail cell. Perhaps we’ll see a Netflix documentary about this strange case.

8. Bride Sets Marriage Certificate On Fire

Est. Cost of Incident: $90-$100* (Marriage Certificate Cost)
Wedding Continued: Yes

Well, that’s one way to make a statement. One Redditor said that, at a wedding they attended, the bride and groom got into a huge argument during the reception, culminating in a rather fiery incident (pun intended).

Though they made it down the aisle, the Redditor told BZFD that the reception was where the train fell off the track. The argument was so vicious that the bride pulled out their original, actual marriage license and set it on fire in front of the entire party. She must’ve been planning that, as that type of theatrical gesture doesn’t just come together on a whim.

9. Groom Refuses To Kiss The Bride

Est. Cost of Incident: N/A
Wedding Continued: Yes

A Buzzfeed listicle told another crazy wedding story, this time about a groom who didn’t kiss the bride. The ceremony went off without a hitch until the part where the officiant said, “You may now kiss the bride.” The groom looked at the crowd, chuckled, and said he didn’t “want to kiss her.”

At first, the crowd thought he was kidding, but he then left the bride unkissed and completely dumbfounded. As you might have guessed, this issue was a bit more deep-rooted than the bride needing some Crest toothpaste. The marriage was over less than a year after it started.

10. Guest Projectile Vomits During Ceremony

Est. Cost of Incident: N/A
Wedding Continued: Yes

Why are kids like this? The more stories we see about kids tearing up weddings, the more we understand brides and grooms who want a kid-free event. According to Reddit poster @theorangepanda99, at a wedding he attended, an eight-year-old boy projectile-vomited.

He had eaten a bunch of confetti, seemingly thinking it was some type of sugary paper (kid logic). This wasn’t exactly something a bit of kid HLN could fix, and the child proceeded to explosively vomit everywhere during the wedding ceremony. Luckily, the wedding went on, and we’re sure the kid was fine and, hopefully, learned his lesson about eating random decorations.

11. Bride Doesn’t Show Up, Party Still Goes On

Est. Cost of Incident: $400-$2,000* (Cost of Wedding Ceremony)
Wedding Continued: No

You knew we’d have a “cold feet” story (or two) on this list. One Redditor told Buzzfeed that his cousin’s wedding was derailed when the bride never showed up. No tragic reason for this no-show was listed, so we assume she simply got cold feet and backed out.

The groom went up to the microphone and told the 500-person crowd that there wasn’t going to be a bride, but the party would go on anyway, likely to ease his broken heart. It seems that the groom, happily, was able to recover, as the Reddit poster said he remarried two years later to someone who actually showed up for the nuptials.

12. Bride & Best Man Caught Having An Affair

Est. Cost of Incident: N/A
Wedding Continued: No

Do you know who your best men and bridesmaids are? Like, really know them? Clearly, one groom didn’t know his best man too well, according to a Reddit post. The Redditor said that her stepdad was once in a wedding band.

One of the stepdad’s many (we’re sure) stories involved an illicit affair. Before the first dance, the groom stood up and gave a speech in which he said that his bride and best man should have the first dance, as the two of them were having an affair. The groom then left and, amazingly, the bride and best man had the first dance.

13. Wedding Guest Attacks DJ

Est. Cost of Incident: $1,000-$1,500*
Did The Wedding Go On?: Yes

Wedding DJs see it all. They are the ones who are there for one of the most important days in peoples’ lives. Though those days often turn out beautifully, it’s safe to say that a good percentage do not.

One DJ actually sustained a bite wound from another human being who was enraged that he wouldn’t pay for a certain song. The cost of an ER visit is around $1,082, as we’re sure that’s exactly where this DJ went to get treatment for this random, bizarre injury. Let’s hope that this wedding biter was taken off the streets and put into jail until he could calm down.

14. Drunk Bridesmaid Confesses Her Love For The Bride

Est. Cost of Incident: N/A
Wedding Continued: Yes

We love a good LGBTQ+ romance story, but this one isn’t exactly a picture-perfect ending. One drunk bridesmaid stood up at the wedding and gave a toast that revealed that she and the bride had had an affair at the bachelorette party the day before.

She then continued to say that she, not the groom, should be the one marrying the bride. During the entire speech, the groom just stood, frozen, glass half-up. After the bridesmaid’s toast, the room was silent until the bride’s father stood up and gave his own toast as though nothing had happened. Though the wedding went on, the groom left early and the marriage itself didn’t last.
