The world of luxury fashion is ever-evolving. It’s an exciting, fast-paced, and very expensive market that often churns out couture looks for thousands a pop. Fashion houses like Chanel, Versace, and Balenciaga aren’t afraid of a hefty price tag.

However, despite their stellar reputations, even these well-known names have been known to occasionally release something that makes us all scratch our heads. From tennis balls to fire extinguishers, purely looking at the following creations from companies like Tiffany’s might make your wallet hurt.

1. Chair Bag

Brand: Area
Price:
$1,100*

Just like any other aspect of fashion, bags are prone to change. At one point in time the bigger the better, but now, as ‘90s trends seep back in, it’s all about the teeny tiny purse again. Clothing brand Area thought it would take it one step further by creating a bedazzled tiny folding chair “bag.”

Available at retailers like Nordstrom, the minute folding chair isn’t really fit for anything, but it will still set you back around $1,100. That’s a lot of money for a chair that you can’t sit on and a bag you can’t actually put anything in.

2. Brick

Brand: Supreme
Price:
$30*

Supreme has been establishing itself as a brand that hipsters and skateboarders love for quite some time now. Although it may not be quite as long in the tooth as some other clothing retailers, it often follows suit when it comes to the weird and wonderful. That includes releasing a brick with its name on it.

Yes, a real clay brick. What was the point of it? No one really knows. It originally retailed for just $30, which is arguably a little pricey for a literal brick. However, it sold out in a heartbeat and soon began popping up on eBay for upwards of $1,000.

3. Double Shirt

Brand: Balenciaga
Price:
$1,000*

When it comes to fashion, it can be just as mind-boggling as quantum psychics. What one person thinks will work is another person’s nightmare, but we can’t help but feel like Balenciaga missed the mark with this one.

The designer brand came up with the “Double Shirt” which is essentially a shirt on top of a shirt. Perhaps even more baffling, this product retails for over $1,000. We can’t be the only ones that think it looks like someone has been attacked by a toddler wielding Elmer’s Krazy Glue.

4. Boomerang

Brand: Chanel
Price:
$1,930*

People go wild for Chanel. It’s one of the best-loved high-end brands in the world, with a reputation that Coco herself built from the ground up. That being said, Chanel has enough of a foothold in the industry that they successfully sold a Chanel boomerang in 2017 for nearly $2,000.

The wood and resin accessory was very on-brand, but realistically, whoever bought one of these must have had more money than sense. Boomerangs get thrown around and often fly into trees, which is why we’ll stick with buying a cheap one from Walmart. All the fun, without the worry.

5. Tiny Purses

Brand: Jacquemus
Price:
$258 each*

No, this isn’t a purse that’s designed for a doll. Real-life adults actually spent hundreds of dollars on these when they were released in 2019. Designed by French fashion guru Simon Porte Jacquemus, the teeny bag was dubbed “Le Chiquito Bag.”

Just about big enough to fit one stick of gum in, the minuscule creation retailed for $258. That’s an insane amount of money, but somehow, people bought it. The bag caused such a stir that it frequently pops up on our Instagram feeds to this day. It’s not hard to see why considering just how bizarre it really is.

6. Paperclip

Brand: Prada
Price:
$185*

We love office supplies as much as the next company, but usually, budgets don’t extend to $185 per paperclip. For reasons unknown to the masses, Prada released gold and silver paperclips in 2017 for $185 a pop.

That’s an amount high enough to make any office manager weep. Call us cynical, but we’ll stick with grabbing a pack of hundred at Target and saving money for the annual holiday party. There’s no twist here, either. The paperclip really is just a paperclip. Unless we’re missing something, this one isn’t for us!

7. Duct Tape

Brand: Raf Simons
Price:
$200*

Duct tape. It’s a house essential that has saved our bacon on more than one occasion, helping us to mend things so we don’t have to shell out a fortune for a new one. At least, not immediately, anyway. Duct tape isn’t typically something we treasure, but if we bought one of Raf Simons’ tape designs, we might feel differently.

In fairness to Simons, the tape isn’t designed to be used to botch together a broken vacuum. It’s actually an accessory that can be used as a belt. What’s more, it can be personalized to say whatever you want it to say, so maybe this has a teensy bit more merit than some other designs we’ve seen.

8. Paper Bag

Brand: Jill Sanders
Price:
$290*

When you were a kid and had to carry your lunch in a paper bag, you probably never thought someone would be walking with one down the runway one day, did you? In 2012, it came as an unexpected shock to the world when designer Jill Sanders unleashed that very item upon the world.

And don’t be fooled – it’s not leather parading as paper. It really is a paper bag, but with a few minor tweaks. This purse sports the Jill Sanders logo and has nice stitching. It’s also got a protective coating. The price? $290. That’s a lot of dough for not very much at all, but who are we to argue?

9. Airplane Bag

Brand: Louis Vuitton
Price: $39,000*

Call us greedy, but for $39,000 we would want our very own private plane or at least a Tesla. It’s a beggar’s belief that this Louis Vuitton creation actually cost that very same amount. Released as part of the Fall/Winter 2021 collection, this purse obviously carries a lot of weight in the fashion game.

It’s not unusual for Louis Vuitton bags to go for similar amounts, but most of them are a little more generic in shape than this design. For any lovers of American Airlines it could be the perfect gift, as long as they’re also into LV of course.

10. 9-Foot-Long Jeans

Brand: Bronze 56k
Price:
$500

Once upon a time, it was a trend to wear baggy jeans. In fact, that trend still lives on to this day, but wouldn’t you draw the line at 9-foot-long jeans? Although it may look like these pants were mistakes that should never have left the factory, that’s not the case.

These 9-foot-long jeans were created by Bronze 56k and cost over $500. In 2018 Youtuber Safiya Nygaard got hold of a pair and wore them out in public for a whole day. It’s something we would wish on our worst enemy, but Safiya took one for the team.

11. “Yarn”

Brand: Tiffany & Co.
Price:
$12,450*

As a brand, Tiffany is so iconic that it’s almost unbeatable. The famous jewelry company even infiltrated the movie world with 1961’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In the last few decades Tiffany’s has managed to hold on to its place in the market, but every now and then, something pops up that doesn’t quite make sense.

Case and point, this interesting silver ball of yarn that costs over $12,000. What does it do? Well, nothing. Tiffany fanatics still went wild over the limited edition piece, with a fair few units sold. Call us silly, but we would rather spend the money on something a little more fabulous – or, at the very least, practical.

12. Dry Cleaning Bag Dress

Brand: Moschino
Price:
$700*

We all know what a dry cleaning bag looks like, but how many of us can say we would put the clean outfit back on with the bag on top, finished with a hanger headdress? Moschino is a brand that’s well-known for pushing boundaries, but is this particular creation realistically wearable?

Even for high fashion queens, this dress might be a little too close to the knuckle. The worst part? The piece of plastic sheeting will set you back over $700. The price of dry cleaning really is on the rise.

13. IKEA Bag

Brand: Balenciaga
Price:
$2,145

Ikea is the furniture store that we all know and love and can spend hours getting lost in. But perhaps the most memorable part of the Ikea experience is their iconic shopping bag. It is recognizable from miles away, with its bright blue color and huge size.

The bag is so iconic, that luxury fashion house, Balenciaga, decided to take a crack at replicating it, only their version costs a whopping $2,145, as opposed to Ikea’s 99 cents. At least the bag is practical and able to store many items. The real question is whether this is actually high fashion or just a high-priced knock-off?

14. Tennis Balls

Brand: Chanel
Price:
$590*

Everyone knows Chanel is classic but did you ever think the famous logo would make its way onto a set of tennis balls? Apparently, Coco’s reach extends beyond gorgeously cut skirt suits and all the way onto the tennis court.

A normal pack of tennis balls can cost just a few bucks, but make them white and stamp Chanel’s logo on and the value rockets faster than Serena Williams’ serve. A pack of these designer balls will cost you over $590. Let that sink in next time you stop by the store and complain about the price of a pack of Wilson’s.
