At the heart of every good celebration there’s an even better cake, but while most of us might throw one together ourselves or head to Walmart, there are some people out there who go the extra mile. In fact, some of the world’s elite are willing to pay more for a cake than the average Joe is ever likely to earn in an entire lifetime.

From cakes shaped like Wrigley Field to chicken biryani, there’s something out there for everyone in the custom cake world – as long as you’ve got the cash to back it up. These sweet creations might have a sell by date, but at least pictures last a lifetime thanks to Facebook!

1. Cake Boss Cake

Made by: Buddy Valastro
Estimated Price: $30 million*

Everyone knows that a wonderful cake is the perfect way to get a party going, but it’s unlikely anyone will spend $30 million on it – unless you’re a New York socialite, that is. Back in 2011, Buddy Valastro of Cake Boss fame made a white 7-tier creation for Devorah Rose.

It’s difficult to imagine how a cake can be so expensive when you can pick up a bag of flour for less than a dollar at stores like Walmart. However, Rose’s cake had some very special ingredients. It was littered with diamonds, stones, and lots of precious jewels.

2. Pirate’s Fantasy Cake

Made by: Dimuthu Kumarasinghe
Estimated Price: $35 million*

We’ve all walked into a fancy restaurant and let out a little gasp at the price of some wines, but can you imagine seeing a $35-million-dollar cake on the menu? It’s a luxury that most of us would never even consider – because it’s literally like flushing money down the toilet.

That being said, we can’t deny that Chef D.K’s 10-layer “Pirate’s Fantasy” doesn’t look incredible. So, what makes it cost so much money? Numerous different sapphires adorn the edible dessert, but its wonders don’t stop there. It has more flavors than Unilever’s Ben and Jerry’s, with yam, zucchini, coconut meringue, and more thrown into the mix.

3. The Wedding Cake of Princess Diana

Made by: Chef S. G. Sender, David Avery
Estimated Price: $40,000*

When Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, it was a huge affair that was plastered all over the tabloids. While we all know that their union didn’t exactly have a happy ending, we can still look back on aspects of the wedding through rose tinted glasses.

Charles and Di reportedly had several different wedding cakes, but one of them was created by Cef S.G Sender and David Avery. This five-tier masterpiece was the “official” wedding cake, reportedly weighing in at over 200 pounds and costing $40,000 to make. Photos of it still circulate on sites like Facebook to this day.

4. Cathedral Cake

Made by: Le Novelle Cakes
Estimated Price: $500,000*

Some cakes are designed to be eaten, while others are designed to be worshipped. This cake by Le Novelle Cakes was an incredible masterpiece shaped to look like a cathedral, complete with turrets and plenty of cherubs. The sheer amount of detailing that went into this thing is beyond impressive.

The entire project was actually created for a wedding cake event, presumably to show potential customers just what this bakery could do. This wonder was made back in 2017, with Le Novelle lamenting the day they had to break it down and pack away on by documenting it on Instagram.

5. Runway Cake

Made by: Debbie Wingham
Estimated Price: $75 million*

Designer Debbie Wingham has managed to make quite the name for herself as a couture cake maker. One of her most high profile cakes was this stunning runway-themed bake that reportedly cost $75 million. The order came in from an unknown man in the UAE who wanted something lavish for his daughter’s engagement and birthday.

Lavish is what he got! The cake is shaped like a runway with cleverly-made figures sitting on the sides. Of course, as you might have guessed thanks to the price tag, there were plenty of real diamonds that would turn Tiffany’s green with envy.

6. Platinum Cake

Made by: Nobue Ikara
Estimated Price: $130,000*

There are some cakes that are just so beautiful they should live in a museum. Nobue Ikara’s platinum masterpiece is one such creation. While the cake itself is fairly simplistic as a white iced single tier, it’s what’s on top of it that’s jaw-dropping.

The dessert is draped in platinum jewelry, seeing its value skyrocket to over $130,000. That’s a huge amount of money for anyone to spend, unless you’re Tesla’s Elon Musk or Bill Gates. Then it’s just another day that’s the same as all the rest.

7. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Wedding Cake

Made by: Patrick Hansen
Estimated Price: $20,000*

When Kim Kardashian got hitched for the second time in 2011 in Kris Humphries, she went all out. The luxury wedding cost an incredible amount of money and was heavily documented on Keeping Up with the Kardashians at the time. In true Kim K style, no expense was spared on the wedding cake.

Patrick Hansen was responsible for the 10-tier white centerpiece that certainly turned heads. The LA-based bakery went all out, making sure that the reality star was pleased as punch. The cake itself was reportedly made with chocolate-chip frosting.

8. National Gay Wedding Show Cake

Made by: Bakery in Chester, England
Estimated Price: $52.7 million*

Wedding shows are important parts of the wedding industry, helping vendors showcase their talents and try to lure in new business. In 2013, the National Gay Wedding Show in England enlisted the help of a local bakery in Chester to create a showstopping wedding cake.

The giant 5-tier beauty was adorned with diamonds, which might explain it’s estimated $52.7 million value. That’s an awful lot of cake and an awful lot of cash, but it’s worth every penny. After all, you can still see pictures of it on Pinterest so it clearly left an impression.

9. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding Cake

Made by: Fiona Cairns
Estimated Price: $78,000*

When Kate Middleton married Prince William in 2011, it was a big deal. The world had royal wedding fever, just like they did when Charles and Di got hitched. Baker Fiona Cairns was charged with making the show stopping eight-tiered wedding cake that included over 900 flowers made from sugar paste.

Not only did it take over five weeks to create, it is one of the most expensive fruit cakes on record, reportedly costing around $78,000. In fairness to the royals, they did make it last, keeping the top two tiers and serving it up to guests at the christenings of their kids.

10. Gucci Mane And Keyshia Ka’oir’s Wedding Cake

Made by: Edda’s Cake Designs
Estimated Price: $75,000*

Let it never be said that celebrities don’t like to go big when it comes to weddings. In 2017, Gucci Mane married Keyshia Ka’oir – and these two went all out with a $75,000 wedding cake that almost touched the ceiling.

According to sources, the wedding itself cost almost $2 million, so perhaps it’s understandable that the Edda Cake creation was so jaw-dropping. No simple knife from Bed, Bath, & Beyond was going to do the trick here, so Mane cut it using a full-length crystal-encrusted sword. It was certainly a look that will take some outdoing.

11. Diamond Chocolate Cake

Made by: Masami Miyamoto
Estimated Price: $850,000*

Some cakes tower into the sky, while others are far more delicate. However, don’t be fooled – size doesn’t matter and a small cake can be even more expensive than an enormous one. Case and point: this beautifully crafted chocolate wonder by Masami Miyamoto.

It might surprise you to learn that this humble cake is actually worth $850,000. As you might have guessed, that’s not down to the flour used (although it’s arguably more expensive than your everyday Walmart brand) but the sheer amount of bling dripping from it. The diamonds might steal the show, but the chocolate certainly helps.

12. Swarovski crystal cake from Sex and the City

Made by: Ron Ben-Israel
Estimated Price: $32,000*

Sex and the City first debuted back in 1998, introducing us to the lavish and stylish world of everyone’s favorite columnist, Carrie Bradshaw. Since the series wrapped in 2004, we’ve been graced with not one, but two movies that were just as blinged out.

Warner Pictures’ Sex and the City 2 dropped in 2010, and $32,000 of the $95 million budget went on a Swarovski crystal wedding cake, designed by Ron Ben-Israel. The now iconic cake looks like a chandelier and went down a storm with fans. Not only was it truly decadent, but it was fashionable to boot.

13. Chicken Biryani Cake

Made by: Butter Side Up Cakes
Estimated Price: Unknown

We all know that cake is food, but it’s not very often that cake ends up looking like other types of food. After all, a cake is a cake – until it’s not. This incredible creation was made to look like a bowl of chicken biryani. From the condiments to the individual grains of rice, the design is incredible.

It takes an enormous amount of skill, time, and patience to pull something like this off, but can you imagine how thrilled the recipient would be? We don’t know exactly how much this would cost, but you’re likely looking at a minimum spend of $100 – if not more.

14. Fairy Tale Castle Cake

Made by: LeNovelle Cakes
Estimated Price: $500,000*

Some brides spend their whole lives fantasizing about fairytale weddings that involve castles, huge dresses, and the perfect wedding cake. Whoever commissioned this beauty obviously wanted an accurate reflection of that. At a cost of $500,000 Le Novelle Cakes created this elaborate design that is nothing short of stunning.

From perfect turrets to dozens of perfectly sculpted flowers, it’s a sight to behold. However, due to its sheer size it practically needs a room to itself, so let’s hope the owners had a big enough venue to match. Something tells us they did.
