Bed Bath & Beyond has been around since 1971, and it has since become the go-to spot for home goods. Its impressive success in the retail industry has landed it among the Forbes Global 2000, as well as the Fortune 500 list. Throughout the years, the store continues to sell home goods, décor, and pretty much any other living-related item you can think of at competitive prices.

Bed Bath & Beyond  has since expanded into Canada and Mexico, and it’s hard to find a major city in North America that doesn’t have a retail location nearby. But from among its many deals, some stand out as true winners – while others may not be as cost-effective as it seems. Here’s what you should grab (or avoid) on your next trip.

1. Instant Pot

Value: $119.99*
Verdict: Skip it

Though this is a “wedding registry favorite,” it is another product that is expensive at BB&B. The Instant-Pot 10-in-1 Duo Evo is a programmable electric pressure cooker. This model is the best-seller of all the Instant Pots, which range from $59.99 for a 20-Cup Rice Cooker to $149.99 for the Duo Nova Electric.

The Instant Pot 10-in-1 costs $119.99. We say “Skip It,” not because it isn’t a great product, but because you can likely find it cheaper elsewhere. At Macy’s, you can find an Instant Pot for $99.99. At Storenvy, there is one that sells for $79.99. Shop around first before settling for BB&B’s price.

2. Bedding Sets

Value: $129-$149*
Verdict: Buy it

There are well over 5,000 results on the Bed Bath & Beyond website for bedding sets, even more than what you might find at a Kohl’s or even Target. There are dozens of patterns and designs for your bedding, and you can find pretty much any size you want, from infant cribs to California Kings.

Brands include Siesta Key, Madison Park, Autumn Vine, Mi Zone, Wamsutta, UGG, Urban Habitat, Lush Decor, and many, many more. The prices range from under $20 for crib bedding all the way to $879.99 (for the Charisma Belaire 4-Piece Reversible Comforter Set—California King).

3. Breville Coffee Machine

Value: $300-$600*
Verdict: Buy it

Breville is a high-end line of home goods, and their coffee makers are not cheap. You’ll pay $299.99 for a twelve-cup coffee maker from the brand. If you want a Breville espresso maker, that will cost at least $600. Though this might be sticker shock, if you make coffee every day, you can consider the price an investment.

At Bed Bath & Beyond, you’ll find that there are sales on things such as the Breville Oracle Touch Complete Espresso Maker. When you add it to your cart, you can see the discount price (down from $2,800). Of course, there’s free shipping on orders that are over $39.00, so you’re guaranteed free shipping on these coffee makers.

4. Ring Video Doorbell

Value: $199.99*
Verdict: Skip it

On Amazon.com, you’ll find that the Ring Video Doorbell in 1080p is actually cheaper, costing $99.99. The Ring Doorbell has been a popular product among homeowners because it is so high tech. At Bed Bath & Beyond, the price for some variations is more expensive, costing $199.99.

NordVPN, a security firm that specializes in preventing cyberattacks, gave us another reason that you might want to say “Skip It” to the Ring system. Ring is susceptible to hackers. Though Amazon claims to have fixed the problem, there still appear to be issues. Tech Republic, in an October 2020 article, called it a “disaster in the making.” Make sure to do careful research before deciding whether Ring is best for you.

5. KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer

Value: $429.99*
Verdict: Buy it

Both a BB&B best-seller and a “wedding registry favorite,” the KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer has a 5/5-star review on the retailer’s website (out of 2,883 reviews). It costs $429.99, so it is far from cheap. The KitchenAid 5-Quart Mixer is part of the brand’s Design Series, which features designs unique to (and likely patented by) KitchenAid.

The Mixer has a tilt-back head and a locking lever. The head stand tilts the mixer back and then locks it, which makes the mixing process less messy, as you have easier access to whatever’s in the mixing bowl. The bowl’s handle is ergonomic, meaning that KitchenAid designed it to fit the contours of a human hand.

6. iRobot Roomba

Value: $599.99*
Verdict: Skip it

The iRobot Roomba i7 is a high-tech way to clean your house. The vacuum hooks up to your iPhone and learns the contours of your home and your routine. It then uses what it learns to clean your house. The Roomba is an amazing product, but at Bed Bath & Beyond, it is very expensive, costing $599.99.

The maker doesn’t allow coupons, either, so you are unable to save even the 20% that Bed Bath & Beyond has. Though there is a financing option with PayPal Credit ($199 a month for three months), that is also pretty steep.

7. Coffee Pods

Value: $29.99/40-count*
Verdict: Buy it

One of the best things about the coffee pod selection at Bed Bath & Beyond is that it’s just so varied. You can find products from Starbucks to Entenmann’s and everything in between – and the prices are competitive. Generally, the pods are sold in quantities of forty. For a Starbucks 40-Count Veranda Blond Blend, you’ll pay $29.99.

Dunkin’ Donuts also sells the same quantity at the same price, for people who prefer the Starbucks rival. Coffee pods are usually pretty expensive, especially if you’re purchasing name brands. The expense has to do with the making of the plastic pods themselves. They’re more convenient, but they are definitely pricier.

8. Yankee Candles

Value: $29.99 per candle*
Verdict: Skip it

You might be able to find a sale on your favorite Yankee Candles at Bed Bath & Beyond, but even then the prices are usually pretty steep at $29.99 for a large, two-wick candle. The Yankee Candle Company simply doesn’t make cheap products.

Some scents you can find cheaper at Amazon. For example, a large two-wick Yankee candle there is $21.99. The Large Jar Candle Vanilla Cupcake that costs $29.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond is actually $16.88 on Amazon right now. However, there are some candles that are more expensive on Amazon, like the Crisp Fall Night ($31.00). Bottom line: shop around first.

9. Artisanal Kitchen Supply Serveware Collection

Value: $9.99-$59.99*
Verdict: Buy it

For individual pieces, you’ll find that the Artisanal Kitchen Supply Marble & Wood Serveware Collection costs between $9.99 and $59.99. The collection is also sold at third-party retailers like Real Simple, but Bed Bath & Beyond has some of the best prices because it is exclusive to the store. It is a “wedding registry favorite,” according to the retailer.

There are some cute items in the collection, including a $39.99 two-tier marble server that looks like a mini-ladder. Other items include a white marble and blond wood cake stand ($39.99), wooden paddle boards ($11.99 each), and monogrammed cheese boards ($9.99 each), among other products.

10. Ellen DeGeneres Mugs

Value: $9.99 per mug*
Verdict: Skip it

ED Ellen DeGeneres is the brand brought to you by the host of the eponymous ABC talk show Ellen. The comedian sells coffee mugs with slogans like “Be Kind,” “Laugh Always,” “Be Amazing” and more. She also has a coffee mug line that is holiday-themed. However, each costs $9.99.

Ellen DeGeneres Mugs @ED Ellen DeGeneres / Pinterest.com Ellen DeGeneres Mugs @ED Ellen DeGeneres / Pinterest.com

Unless you’re an Ellen mega-fan, that’s a little steep for a coffee mug. They are definitely not the cheapest coffee mugs at Bed Bath & Beyond. You can find a 20-ounce Reactive Coffee Mug for $5.99. A Libbey Kona Glass Mug costs $3.49, while a Formations Vine Monogrammed mug costs $5.99.

11. Le Creuset Cookware

Value: $100-$300*
Verdict: Buy it

Le Creuset is a brand of cookware for serious cooks who don’t mind paying extra to have top-of-the-line items in their kitchen. The brand is pricey, and a Tri-Play Steel Cookware Collection will cost you up to $699.99. Le Creuset is also sold at Williams-Sonoma. A price comparison shows that Bed Bath & Beyond has the better deal on some items.

For example, the Signature Enameled Saucepan costs $190 to $230 at Williams-Sonoma. At Bed Bath & Beyond, that same saucepan costs $185 to $280, meaning that you might be able to find a base price on certain colors that is lower than WS. As always, shop around first to get the best deal.

12. Rachael Ray Enamel Cookware Set

Value: $129.99*
Verdict: Skip it

The Rachael Ray Enamel Cookware Set costs $129.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond, and that is a pretty hefty price for a cookware set. The Rachael Ray Set is so expensive because you’re paying for the name brand. In the Rachael Ray Set comes two saucepans, a saute pan, a stockpot, two skillets, a nonstick cookie pan, a nonstick nylon turner, and several lids.

Comparatively, you can find 12-piece cookware sets cheaper. The T-fal Pure Cook Nonstick Aluminum 12-Piece set costs $59.99, and it has similar ratings to the Rachael Ray Set. The same goes for the Farberware Cookware Set, which has seventeen pieces, is similarly-rated, and costs $79.99.

13. Baby Products

Value: $20-$200*
Verdict: Skip it

Some of the baby products at Bed Bath & Beyond are a little expensive, and it’s probably in your best interest to shop around first. For example, Little Remedies Little Tummy Gripe Water costs $8.49 for a four-ounce container at BB&B. However, on Amazon, you can find the same item for $6.62 (plus free shipping for Prime members).

Baby Products @Bed Bath & Beyond / Pinterest.com Baby Products @Bed Bath & Beyond / Pinterest.com

Another example is the Nanobebe 50-Pack of Breastmilk Storage Bags. At Bed Bath & Beyond, you’ll pay $9.99. On Amazon, you’ll pay $8.99. This is not to say that BB&B doesn’t have good deals. Just make sure you compare prices first (especially with Amazon and Walmart).

14. Bread Maker

Value: $89.99-$339.99*
Verdict: Buy it

If you go to the Bed Bath & Beyond website you’ll find that there is low stock for a lot of their bread makers. Bread making has become quite the hobby among people with time to kill – so if you want a deal bread maker, Bed Bath & Beyond is a great place to hunt.

Though the high-tech Zojirushi Home Bakery Virtuoso Plus Bread Maker ($339.99) is frequently sold out, the Hamilton Beach bread makers are a solid alternative. The Hamilton bread makers are well-rated on the website, and their starting price is usually in the $89.99 range.
