Technology is a great way to strike it rich in the 21st century. If you’re hardworking and talented, and get lucky with timing, or in the case of Elon Musk of Tesla, revolutionize the electric car industry, you too can become one of the richest people in the world.

But as they say, behind every great man is a woman pulling the strings: so who are the intelligent women inspiring the tech world’s richest and most eligible men? Some of the women on this list appeared once their men struck success, while others have been there from the very beginning, but all of them have had an unrecognized influence on the largest money-making companies of the modern era.

1. Grimes

Associated With: Elon Musk
Company: Tesla

Elon Musk is undoubtedly an eccentric genius – one with an equally exotic taste in relationships. In 2018, the SpaceX creator went public with his on-again, off-again relationship with quirky musician Grimes, who has a cult following of her own.

Grimes isn’t your average pop star, and she often thinks outside of the box when it comes to her music and art. That being said, it’s not hard to see why the two hit it off. They welcomed their first child together in 2020, a baby boy that they controversially named X Æ A-12. X is Musk’s seventh child. Since then, they have had two more kids, Exa Dark Siderael and Techno Mechanicus.

2. Lily Cole

Associated With: Kwame Ferreira
Company: Kwamecorp

Back in the ‘00s, Lily Cole was a prominent face as one of Britain’s most successful models. She first started in the industry as a 13-year-old, believe it or not. Photographers were taken by her wide-set eyes and vibrant red hair. By 2004, she was named Model of the Year. Over the course of her career, Cole walked runways for many top designers.

She moved on to acting before focusing on her philanthropic endeavors and founding her own company, Impossible. She and billionaire Kwame Ferreira have been going strong since 2012. Ferreira even moved to make Kwamecorp a part of the Impossible brand, merging the couple’s successful projects under one name.

3. Emma Watson

Associated With: William Knight (Former)
Company: Medallia Professional Services

In her fans’ eyes, Emma Watson will always live a magical life thanks to her role as Hermione Granger in the Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter franchise. With a net worth of $80 million, she’s as financially independent as they come, though has had her fair share of high-profile relationships before declaring herself “self-coupled”.

From 2015 to 2017, Watson dated Medallia Professional Services executive William Mack Knight. Though at first, there might have seemed to be a large age gap, the strong-willed and highly intelligent Watson was likely a good match for the tech giant.

4. Miranda Kerr

Associated With: Evan Spiegel
Company: Snap

Miranda Kerr is known internationally for her work as a model for Victoria’s Secret. Kerr is married to the wealthy Snap CEO Evan Spiegel, whom she met back in 2015. Spiegel is worth almost $3 billion, while Miranda has a more-than-respectable $60 million in the bank.

The wildly-successful couple has three sons together, Hart, Myles, and Pierre. Since the birth of her sons, Kerr has pivoted away from the modeling industry to develop her own organic skincare line, KORA Organics, in order to provide people with clean skincare products that promote non-toxic health.

5. Allison Williams

Associated With: Ricky Van Veen (Former)
Company: CollegeHumor, Vimeo

Girls star Allison Williams wasn’t always lucky in love in the hit HBO series, but she seemingly had the perfect marriage to CollegeHumor and Vimeo founder Ricky Van Veen. The pair said their “I do’s’” in a lavish ceremony officiated by Tom Hanks in 2015 after meeting at a Bachelor viewing party.

The actress, who was married to Van Veen from 2015 to 2019, is never short of high-profile parts, having recently starred in Jordan Peele’s social horror masterpiece Get Out. She continues to be one of the most sought-after actresses of her generation.

6. Karlie Kloss

Associated With: Joshua Kushner
Company: Thrive Capital

Not many people realize that model Karlie Kloss has some very high-ranking in-laws. In 2019, the blonde modeling phenomenon married Thrive Capital founder and managing partner Josh Kushner. They got married in 2019, holding a private ceremony before whisking their family and friends to a ranch in Wyoming for a bigger celebration. Joshua has a net worth of $3.6 billion, with Kloss bringing some $40 million to the joint bank account as well.

7. Talulah Riley

Associated With: Elon Musk (Former)

Riley first started dating Musk in 2008 before the two got married in 2010. They then split in 2012, reconciled, and remarried in 2013 again before separating another time. Sometimes love can, indeed, be as crazy as a roller coaster – or in Musk’s case, a rocket ship.

8. Kristy Hinze Clark

Associated With: James Clark
Company: Silicon Graphics, Inc., Netscape CC, and more

Kristy Hinze Clark might be married to multi-billionaire James Clark, but she has some impressive achievements of her own. The Australian model has a successful career as a TV host and has been featured by both Sports Illustrated and Victoria’s Secret, earning a hefty chunk of her net worth all on her own.

James Clark, a Silicon serial-business-founder with a net worth of $3.8 billion, might be 36 years older than she is, but Kristy isn’t bothered about the age gap at all. The pair welcomed a daughter in 2009, five years before Kristy gave birth to their second in 2014.

Serena Williams is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She was born in Florida, and she earned over $29 million in endorsements throughout her career, becoming the highest-paid female athlete back in 2016. The tennis star has been named “Sportswoman of the Year” by Laureus four times.

14. Anjali Pichai

Associated With: Sundar Pichai
Company: Alphabet Inc, Google LLC

Anjali Pichai has more smarts in her little finger than most of us do in our entire bodies. Not only is she a shrewd businesswoman, but she’s a chemical engineer, having graduated with a degree in the subject from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagur.
