Revenge: is it a dish best served cold? Should you take the high road? Does it all depend on the situation? On this list, you’ll find people firmly in the first camp. These people are petty, vindictive, and definitely believe the old “eye for an eye” parable we’ve all heard so much about.

On this list, we have a collection of some of the pettiest stories of people getting revenge on exes, bullies, horrible bosses, and every villain in between. Sometimes, you have to beat karma to it and give bad people a dose of justice yourself.

1. No Cold Water For You

Year: 2019
What Happened: A man taking his fridge and dignity back

“You know how mad you gotta be to carry a refrigerator?” That question was posed on X after one reader saw this story, which featured a man taking his Maytag and going home. He was fed up with his girlfriend, for whom he’d originally bought the fridge.

She cheated on him, and he gave her a dose of justice. He took the fridge back with him, using his pain and anger to hurry it away. Cheat on him, you’re not going to get your cold water and fresh produce. No way.

2. Wealth + Pettiness

Year: 2017
What Happened: A rich guy swiped someone’s domain name

As Drake said, “When you’re rich, you can afford to be dramatic.” Such was the case for Khalil Sehnaoui on X, who was at a coffee shop when he was offended by the loud, rude, thoughtless people sitting next to him.

They were speaking so loudly, that he heard every word of their conversation, including when they came up with the “perfect” business name. After hearing this, Sehnaoui, a tech consultant, bought the domain name to shut them up.

3. Tatted Up

Year: 2023
What Happened: A matching tattoo (but not really) vengeance

Let’s just start by saying that matching tattoos have a lot of potential to be great…or disastrous. Be very careful who you get this ink with, as you’ll want to make sure it’s someone who’s going to be in your life for a long time.

This girl found out her BF was cheating. She played the long game, convincing him to get matching tattoos. But, after he got his, she went right home, leaving him with a tat that he’d have to be stuck with forever.

4. Respect Your Elders

Year: 2021
What Happened: Gen Z’er got busted

“I’m no narc,” this story begins, but it then takes a turn. The entire conflict stemmed from the age-old dispute between millennials and Gen Z, with the latter believing the former has terrible style.

This person let out her Gen Z neighbor’s secret BF to her dad, all because the neighbor told her that skinny jeans were “out.” Millennials love skinny jeans, and they’ll do anything to defend the honor of their favorite pair of Levis.

5. Senior Discount

Year: 2010s
What Happened: An offer of a senior discount to rude women

Posted on @pettyrevenge, an aptly-named Tumblr thread, this story is sure to speak to anyone working in the service industry who has had to deal with the wrath of the Karens (usually middle-aged women) over something minor.

This person would always get revenge on Karens who came into her workplace, asking them if they wanted to take advantage of the “senior discount.” As you can imagine, the response to that 65-and-older offer was unpleasant.

6. PLL Would Be Proud

Year: 2017
What Happened: A PLL fan gets cut off

Pretty Little Liars is a drama about revenge, disappearances, and teens harassing each other. It ran for 160 episodes, and you can watch all of the seasons on Netflix, if you want. This person’s ex loved PLL, but she was cut off after two seasons.

This seems like a fair punishment to us. If you break up with someone, you really shouldn’t stay on their streaming account without permission. This poster’s ex didn’t abide by those etiquette rules, and he had to take harsh vengeance as a result.

7. Sewing Pins Prank

Year: 1990s/2000s
What Happened: Revenge on a school bully

A lot of us have run into grade school bullies—kids who are just mean for no reason, it seems. This person had a bully when he was young, someone who would crush his chips every day for no reason other than to be a jerk.

So, he taught him a rather painful lesson. One day, he replaced the chips with sewing pins, describing his revenge as “Sweet, sweet justice.” The bully never did that again, as you can well imagine. Nothing a few KVUE couldn’t fix!

8. $0.01

Year: 2000s
What Happened: A pizza guy gets revenge over a penny

Some people just get a kick out of being rude to those who work in the service industry. Such was the case with one Domino’s pizza delivery guy, who always had to deal with the same rude, non-tipping house.

Finally, he got fed up. One day, the people at the house gave him a cent less than he was owed for the pizza. He demanded his penny, which they legally had to give him, and he chucked it out into the street. “It was SATISFYING,” he said. We can imagine.

9. A Barista’s Revenge

Year: 2010s
What Happened: Sticker placement revenge

Who knew you could derive such pleasure from revenge? This person, who worked at Starbucks and had had just about enough of the teenagers coming in and ordering a million time-consuming-to-make Frappuccinos.

So, she ruined their Insta photos by placing the order-detail sticker over the Starbucks logo. Sure, it was a petty revenge, but perhaps they’d think twice about heading into the coffee shop to be annoying teens.

10. Mass Gainer

Year: 2010s
What Happened: High-calorie revenge

Mass gainer powder, which you can find at stores and on Amazon for around $40-$60 a container, is popularly used among athletes and bodybuilders to help them put on weight that could be converted to muscle by lifting.

Another use: revenge. This Mean-Girls-esque vengeance was carried out by a boyfriend who found his girlfriend cheating. He snuck mass gainer powder into her smoothies for a month straight, causing his non-lifter ex to put on around fifteen pounds.

11. Playing It Cool

Year: 2010s/2020s
What Happened: Making an ex feel totally irrelevant

This is the revenge this person was waiting for—the chance to look their ex in the eye and make them feel irrelevant. While working, this person’s ex came in. When he or she ordered their food, the person asked for their name, as though they’d never met.

Small potatoes? Sure. Petty? Absolutely. But, as those of us with trash exes (so, everyone in the population, basically) can attest, it’s the little things like this that make you feel like you’re taking your power back.

12. 11 Years

Year: 2023
What Happened: A hole in a wall, 11 years on

Eleven years is a long time to plot revenge, but some people really take the whole, “dish best served cold,” thing to the max. This person posted about vengeance he took on his cousin, who punched a hole in his wall “eleven years ago.”

The cousin laughed it off and left it for the poster to fix—pretty rude, we’d say. So, when the cousin got his first house, the poster went and punched a hole in the wall, leaving the damage for the cuz to clean up. Tit for tat.

13. Happy Holidays

Year: 2015
What Happened: A car hitting a hydrant, thanks to a setup

Kids are clever, and they don’t like being messed with. When Michael Nelson was nine, he and his friends were building snowmen outside. Someone drove over the curb to destroy them, no doubt some teenager thinking he was being funny.

They built more, and the same thing happened. So, the kids built snowmen over a fire hydrant, obscuring the equipment with snow. When the guy came back, he crashed into the hydrant, no doubt causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.

14. Take The High Road

Year: 2020s
What Happened: A woman took another’s food at the drive-thru

Nobody on this list took the high road—that’s the whole point of this compilation of the greatest revenge stories on the Internet. This woman was particularly devious, exacting her vengeance on a rude customer in the drive-thru lane of McDonald’s.

This woman paid for the rude customer’s food, but then took that food too, tricking the latter into thinking she’d done a good deed after being honked at. This wasn’t theft, technically, but it was a pretty cold dish of burgers-and-fries vengeance.
