Weddings are momentous occasions that are supposed to celebrate the love between two people, but they are also notoriously expensive. The average American reportedly spends around $1,600 on a wedding dress according to The Knot, but the richer you are, the higher the price.

In fact, when it comes to A-list wedding dresses, a lot of them are worth more than our entire homes. In some cases, they could even buy a whole apartment building. From royalty to Sony artists, these famous faces spared no expense when it came to their perfect gowns.

1. Jessica Biel

Price: $100,000*
Designed by: Giambattista Valli

When Justin Timberlake married actress Jessica Biel in 2012, it was a true Hollywood dream come true. There was a time when it looked like the former boy band member was going to tie the knot with Cameron Diaz, but when that didn’t work out, he found his soulmate.

The Netflix actress decided to go for something a little bit different, asking Giambattista Valli to create something stunning for her big day. The result was a beautiful pink ruffled gown that was perfect for their Italian wedding – even if it did cost a small fortune.

2. Princess Diana

Price: $115,000*
Designed by: David and Elizabeth Emanuel

When Prince Charles finally decided to settle down and asked Lady Diana Spencer to marry him, the world went wild. It was the wedding to end all weddings, but there was one element in particular fans were eager to see. The wedding dress was the talk of the town.

Designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, the incredible ivory creation was very on-trend for the ‘80s. Of course, the makers had a very good budget to work with, spending over $115,000 on the enormous gown with its 25-foot-long silk train. Photos of it still show up on Pinterest to this day.

3. Kim Kardashian

Price: $500,000
Designed by: Riccardo Tisci

When Kim Kardashian got together with rap sensation Kanye West, it was like two worlds collided. The musician and the reality star spared no expense on their wedding day. As you may imagine, the dress was a big part of the festivities.

Designed by Riccardo Tisci, Kim’s gown reportedly cost over $500,000. That’s a serious amount of cash, but considering how much this former couple was worth, it was just a drop in the ocean. The form-fitting white gown looks just as great on Instagram today as it did then.

4. Pippa Middleton

Price: $52,000*
Designed by: Giles Deacon

The Duchess of Cambridge’s sister Pippa Middleton first became somewhat of a sensation when she followed behind her sibling, adjusting the train of Kate’s dress on her wedding day to Prince William in 2011. Six years later, it was Pippa’s turn to walk down the aisle herself when she married James Matthews.

Pippa’s wedding dress was slightly similar to Kate’s in a lot of ways, but it was still uniquely beautiful. The lacey number was the work of Giles Deacon, who was paid around  $52,000. Considering the dress also ended up in papers like the New York Times that’s not half bad.

5. Grace Kelly

Price: $60,000*
Designed by: Helen Rose

Grace Kelly went down in history for more than one reason. The Hollywood starlet was praised for her performances in many movies before she became romantically involved with Prince Rainier III of Monaco. The story was a fairytale, with the two cementing their union in 1956.

Kelly’s wedding dress, designed by Helen Rose, has become just as famous as Kelly herself over the years. It has inspired countless other dresses over the years, including Kate Middleton’s own gown. Grace Kelly was the epitome of elegance, and so was the dress. It’s a timeless classic.

6. Amal Clooney

Price: $380,000*
Designed by: Oscar de la Renta

Even though George Clooney had been married once in the ‘80s, for a long time it looked like he was never going to walk down the aisle again. However, that all changed when he met a powerful human rights attorney, Amal.

The couple immediately hit it off and got hitched in 2014 in Venice, Italy. The star-studded event certainly ticked all the boxes but no one was looking at the former AT&T Warner Bros. Batman star. They were watching Amal in her stunning Oscar de la Renta gown that had a reported $380,000 price tag.

7. Meghan Markle

Price: $147,000*
Designed by: Weight Keller for Givenchy

When Meghan Markle fell in love with Prince Harry, many likened the match to Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III’s unexpected pairing. Unfortunately for the couple, they haven’t had a smooth time of it. However, their wedding day was just as hyped as Prince William and Kate Middleton’s own ceremony.

Markle enlisted the help of Givenchy designer Weight Keller to create the perfect subtle gown for her big day. The reported cost exceeded over $147,000, which is a lot of money. Like most things when it comes to Meghan, the former Comcast actress’s choice was polarizing. Some thought it was just too simple.

8. Marie-Chantal Miller

Price: $225,000*
Designed by: Valentino

Marie-Chantal Miller might have been born in London, but she ended up marrying Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece in 1995. The British beauty recruited Valentino to design the perfect bridal gown, which saw her become a vision in white.

Incredibly, Miller’s gown cost over $225,000, which beats the price of Meghan Markle’s dress. The wonderful vintage-inspired dress was seemingly worth every penny if the smile on the bride’s face was anything to go by. The tulip-shaped front coupled with a modest, yet beautiful 4.5-meter lace train proved to be popular.

9. Katie Holmes

Price: $50,000*
Designed by: Armani

Katie Holmes shot to fame as little Joey Potter in the hit teen show Dawson’s Creek. If only the young actress knew then that she would end up marrying Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise in 2006 and welcoming a daughter, Suri.

The relationship itself would come to an end in 2012, but there are still pictures of the big day to look back on. The whole affair cost a reported $3 million, with Katie’s Armani gown costing $50,000. At the time, the actress looked happier than ever in the classic white dress with a simple veil and lace detailing.

10. Beyoncé

Price: $150,000*
Designed by: Galia Lahav

There are very few celebrities that actually manage to pull off getting married in secret. Beyonce and Jay-Z are megastars, but for some reason, they managed to tie the knot with very little fanfare in 2008. The low-key ceremony took place in New York, but details on that event are scarce.

We do know that when the couple renewed their vows years later, the gown was reportedly from a collection that was inspired by Queen Victoria, designed by Galia Lahav. With a regal flair and embellishments like real pearls, it’s hardly surprising that the outfit cost over $150,000.

11. Chiara Ferragni

Price: $420,000*
Designed by: Maria Grazia Chiuri

Italian influencer Chiara Ferragni tied the knot with X-Factor judge Fedez in 2018, much to the delight of her followers. Of course, Ferragni posted plenty of pictures of the happy day, including several snaps of her impressive dress.

Made by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the gown was every inch as impressive as you might expect. Heads turned as soon as Chiara walked down the aisle, dazzling in the special creation. If you can’t rely on an influencer to bring their A-game for their wedding day, who can you rely on? The dress may have cost $420,000, but who’s counting?

12. Kate Middleton

Price: $545,000*
Designed by: Sarah Burton

Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton was a long time coming, so when the event finally happened in 2011 after many years of dating, the British public was thrilled. Not only did Brits watch the union, but so did millions around the world.

Kate Middleton’s Sarah Burton dress reportedly cost $545,000 to create, but it was a total showstopper. Whether intended or not, Middleton’s gown became an instant classic, with brides across the globe choosing similar styles as a result of Kate’s influence. Considering just how many people would see the dress, the price is understandable.

13. Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams

After meeting each other on social media, radio host Wells Adams and actor Sarah Hyland did what any celebrity couple would do, they had their first date at a benefit that took place before the Emmy’s in 2017. Having postponed their nuptials on two operate occasions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Adams and Hyland finally got married in August 2022, and Sarah Hyland was decked out in not one but two fabulous pieces custom made by Vera Wang; one for the ceremony, and one for the reception.

14. Coleen Rooney

The couple tied the knot in 2005, splashing out $5 million of Wayne’s hard-earned cash on an elaborate wedding in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy. Part of the total bill was Coleen’s extravagant Marchesa wedding dress. The strapless gown with a full, ruffled skirt came in at an eye-watering $392,000.
