Dubai has become known for many things, almost all of which are either impressively expensive, made of gold, or extremely rare to find elsewhere in the world. At times, it almost seems as though the locals in Dubai live in their own personal playgrounds. A fantasy world of sorts, where anything is possible, given one’s pockets are deep enough.

One of the most obvious ways to flaunt one’s wealth in public is to cruise around town in an expensive car. In America, when we see a Ferrari or Lamborghini drive past, it’s hard not to stop and watch. If one were to stop and watch every time a supercar passed by in Dubai, they’d have whiplash in no time. If a rare car exists, chances are it can be found in Dubai. Let’s take a look at some of the rarest and most beautiful vehicles that can be found in Dubai.

1. Diamond Covered Mercedes Benz SL600

Designer: Bruno Sacco
Number Produced: 2
Est. Value: $4.8 Million*

The people of Dubai have been making an art out of spending money on over-the-top items that most people could only dream of. The motor vehicles in Dubai will most certainly turn a few heads, but few will do so more often than the diamond-encrusted Mercedes.

People in Dubai have been known to pay $1000 merely to touch Saudi Prince, (Amir) al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdul-Aziz’s mink-furnished Mercedes SL600. More than three hundred thousand diamonds were used as decals on the Mercedes, however, being one of the top ten wealthiest people in the world, the car’s $4.8 million price tag, was more like pocket change to the Saudi Prince.

2. Ferrari Limo

Designer: Goran Popovic
Number Produced: Unknown
Est. Value: $305,000*

Enzo Ferrari may have begun his career as a top-level race-car driver, but it was the cars with his name on them that gained the Ferrari name most of its modern-day fame. For more than half of a century, with its sleek look and incredible handling, Ferrari has been one of the most well-known names in the automobile industry.

It has become normal to see some of Ferrari’s most luxurious models being put on display by drivers all over the world, but in Dubai, they’ve found a way to make luxury vehicles even more luxurious. Coming fully equipped with everything that a regular Modena should, this Ferrari Modena 360 limousine is also spacious enough to carry eight passengers (not including the driver), while not losing any of its signature Ferrari power.

3. Gold Nissan GTR

Designer: Shiro Nakamura
Number Produced: Unknown
Est. Value: $1 Million*

Not everyone in Dubai has the means to purchase a new Lamborghini or Bugatti whenever they please. Some Emiratis are content settling with a Nissan sometimes, but settling doesn’t quite mean the same thing in Dubai as it does in America. It’s not the brand of the car that matters most to some people, but the materials of which the car is made.

Dubai locals have a way of taking the average run-of-the-mill sports car and paying outrageous amounts of money in order to let their neighbors know just how elite of a class they are in. While keeping true to Shiro Nakamura’s original design for the car, this Nissan GTR was plated with gold and its details were carved by the skilled hands of master engraver Takahiko Izawa. That’s one way to raise the value of a car from $65,000 to $1 million.

4. Bugatti Taxi

Designer: Jozef Kaban
Number Produced: 150
Est. Value: ~$2 Million*

Only a limited amount of time left before the first robot jockey camel races of the day begin? There is no need to panic. In Dubai when someone orders an UberX car, the’s a chance that they could end up getting a ride in one of the fastest and most expensive cars in the world. It’s even more impressive when taken into account that there were only 150 units of the vehicle made.

With the ability to travel at speeds of up to 260 mph and cut corners with impeccable precision, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport is in a class of its own. If one were to find themselves in Dubai and in need of an Uber, it is most definitely worth paying a few extra dollars for a lottery chance at being picked up by a Bugatti.

5. White Gold Mercedes SLR Sports

Designer: Gorden Wagener/Yoon Il-hun
Number Produced: Unknown
Est. Value: ~$2.5 Million*

It is rather difficult for some of us to comprehend why someone may need an automobile with a 4 turbo V10 engine and nearly 1600hp. It’s even more difficult for us to come to terms knowing that one exists that is made out of sheets of white gold, but it does, and it can be found cruising the streets of Dubai.

The Mercedes SLR Sports vehicle is a finely crafted piece of art. Its smooth shape is only accentuated more by the glare of the light off of its white gold body and the SLR can travel a quarter of a mile in 6.89 seconds and runs on biofuel, so not only is this car great to look at and fit for royalty, but it’s also environmentally friendly.

6. Lamborghini Cop Car

Designer: Filippo Perini
Number Produced: 2
Est. Value: $545,000*

Due to the large number of elite vehicles in Dubai, it seems more out of necessity than for pleasure that the police officers can be seen riding around in style as well. More frequently than one would expect, the police in Dubai can be seen patrolling the streets in Ferraris, Bugattis, and Lamborghinis.

The Lamborghini Aventador is a police vehicle like no other. With the ability to go from 0-60 mph in 3 seconds and topping out around 220 mph, it is no wonder why attempts by drivers in Dubai to outrun the law are few and far between.

7. Amphibious Cars

Designer: David March
Number Produced: 100+
Est. Value: $135,000*

The first commercial water car was available to the public in 2013 when WaterCar released the ‘Panther’. Having a rather reasonable price tag of just over $135, 000 the more recent model has become a popular accessory in Dubai, and not just amongst the higher class, although Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheik Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al-Maktoum, does own six of these amphibious water vehicles, himself.

While driving into the water at speeds just shy of 10mph, the wheels are retracted by a hydraulic off-road suspension. In under fifteen seconds the transition from a land vehicle into a sea-faring one, and vice versa, can be completed. Once the transformation is complete, these ‘Bond-esque’ vehicles can reach speeds in the water of more than 60 mph.

8. Solid Gold Lamborghini

Designer: Filippo Perini
Number Produced: Unknown
Est. Value: $7.5 Million*

Lamborghinis have long been one of the favorite automobiles of the rich and famous. In recent years the Aventador has been one of the more popular models that the grotesquely wealthy people of the world have been partial to. With so many people purchasing this V12 supercar, Dubai’s upper class has found a way to remain in the upper echelon of Lambo owners. Gold.

Although fifty-five pounds of gold make up the final product, the block of gold that was used to carve this Lamborghini Aventador started out as a 1,100 pound brick of solid yellow gold. Even with all of that gold, this luxury Lamborghini hasn’t lost any of its zip, and can still top out at almost 220 mph.

9. The Batmobile

Designer: Team Galag
Number Produced: Unknown
Est. Value: ~$1 Million*

Dubai is a great place for anyone who has ever wanted to live as though they were stepping out of the realities of the Western World and into an adult playground. The cities are huge, the accessories are flashy, and the cars are in a league of their own. Walking the streets in Dubai can sometimes remind a visitor of the streets in the Gran Turismo or Grand Theft Auto video games.

On a night out in the city, a visitor may think they have seen the Dark Knight himself cruising around town, but they would be mistaken. It would just have been a local, driving one of the handfuls of Bat-mobiles that have been sold in the UAE. Reaching speeds of more than 150 mph, these chariots of the knight are no joke.

10. Brabus G700

Designer: Unknown
Number Produced: 100+
Est. Value: $300,000*

Cruising down the streets of Dubai in a top-of-the-line sports car is definitely one way to flaunt one’s wealth in Dubai, but not everyone prefers to be in the spotlight. Some Emiratis prefer weekend joyrides, driving off into the sandy desert dunes, and for them, only the top-of-the-line SUT (Sport Utility Truck) will do.

This all-terrain vehicle has a twin-turbo V8 engine that has the ability to send this monster from 0-62 mph in only 6 seconds, on land or sand. In order to maintain the model’s distinctiveness, Mercedes decided to stop sales of the G700 G63 AMG after only 2 years of sales and announced that the model had been sold out. Its exclusivity has only made the Brabus G700’s more desirable to those who can find and afford one.

11. Devel Sixteen

Designer: Steve Morris
Number Produced: 1 (Prototype)
Est. Value: $1.7 Million*

In 2013, when the Devel Sixteen was announced at the Dubai Motor Show, car enthusiasts the world over were blown away. This car looks like something that would appear in the 30th installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise. Although it is still in its prototype stage, the specs of the Devel, if everything comes together as planned, are mind-blowing.

With the intention to market it as a track or dragster car, the Devel Sixteen is not exactly what most legal systems would consider being street legal. Its V16 engine produces five times the amount of power as the Bugatti Veyron, at almost 5000hp and can reach speeds of just under 350  mph, that’s almost 100mph faster than the Veyron. Being almost 9 years from when the Devel first made its appearance, only time will tell if the dream will come to fruition.

12. Gold Chrome Wrapped Porsche 918 Spyder

Designer: Michael Mauer
Number Produced: 918 Spyders (1 Wrapped In Gold Chrome)
Est. Value: ~$1 Million*

The Porsche 918 Spyder is not made out of solid gold like some of the other treasures that could be found in Dubai, but it is wrapped in gold chrome. The 918 Spyder, as it came, was not fast enough or expensive enough for this upperclassman to drive, so for only an additional $100,000 they purchased the weight-saving Weissach Package, and wrapped the entire thing in gold chrome.

The Weissach package includes Alcantara covering instead of a leather interior as well as carbon fiber replacements for the roof, window and door frames, and rear wings. These replacements cut the weight of the car by almost ninety pounds and allow for an increase in speed as well as aerodynamics, pushing the 918 Spyder to go from 0-186 mph in just 19.9 seconds. Although 918 Spyders were produced, to date there is only one that is known to be wrapped in gold chrome.

13. Lamborghini Veneno

Designer: Filippo Perini & Michele Tinazzo
Number Produced: 13
Est. Value: $4.5 Million*

Lamborghini has made quite the name for itself as a manufacturer of some of the most beautifully designed, top-quality supercars the world has to offer. Each model has its own artistic quality, and the 6.5-liter V12 engined Veneno is no exception. The Veneno rear arch design is a throwback to one of Lamborghini’s classic models, the Countach, but that is where their appearance similarities end. Unlike the Countach’s race-car appearance, the Veneno looks more like a fighter jet trapped in a supercar’s body.

The Veneno may have been built for speed and had its design parallel that of top-of-the-line racecars, but make no mistake, it was made for the road. If the chance of seeing one of the rare Venenos is what someone is after, then Dubai is the place to be, as at least one of the thirteen Vereno’s that were made, can be seen cruising the streets of Dubai.

14. Lykan Hypersport

Designer: Ralph Debbas, Anthony Jannarelly and Benoit Fraylon
Number Produced: 7
Est. Value: $3.4 Million*

Designed by Italian and Lebanese engineers, the Lykan Hypersport was the first sports car to be designed and built in the Middle East. The headlights are studded with a variety of precious gems, most notably rubies, and the stitching of the seats has been completed using gold threads. If the Lykan is just the beginning, then the future looks rather bright for UAE-based sports car manufacturer W Motors.

The Dubai police force has become famous around the world for the fleet of luxury sports cars that they’ve employed. From Lamborghinis to Bugattis, they have them all. They’ve even recruited one of the world’s 7 Lykan Hypersports into the force. Powered by a twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, the Lykan has the ability to leave onlookers in awe as it travels from 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds and reaches top speeds of approximately 245 mph.
