When you have a long list of things to do but all you want to do is Netflix and chill, what you need is shortcuts. Ways to get through the tasks that will be easier and faster and more efficient. They say if you hire a lazy man for a job, you will discover the easiest way to do that job.

Some people call it laziness, others call it saving time and energy and others call it maximum effectiveness. However you define it, we all look for shortcuts from time to time. Why go the long way round when you can go a shorter or easier way, right? Life is busy and we all have a lot to do so in this post we delve into different ways that you can cut corners and make your life easier.

1. Ride In Comfort and Style

What it is: Lazy boy bicycle
What You’ll Need: A lazy boy and a bike
Estimated Cost to Make: $299*

Today everyone is looking for alternative ways to get around that don’t involve cars or busses. City share bicycles and scooters are at an all-time high, with convenience and affordability at the top of people’s list of priorities. However, bicycle seats can be rather uncomfortable, especially if you cycle far distances.

Giving new meaning to the term ‘lazy boy’, this refurbished lazy boy chair makes cycling more comfortable than ever. You will need a bike that is extremely well balanced, perhaps unrealistically well balanced, and someone who is very good at putting things together. If you can actually pull it off, it is pretty much 21st-century transportation at its best.

2. Make A Long Walk A Little Shorter

What it is: Segway stroller-pushing
What You’ll Need: A Segway
Estimated Cost to Make: $6000 – $8000*

When walking with a stroller is just too much hard work. The two-wheeled Segway became strangely popular despite looking absolutely ridiculous. Who can forget Gob in Fox’s Arrested Development with his Segway, struggling up and down small, sandy hills while trying to be taken seriously.

This image is slightly disturbing but also begs the question: but does it actually help? Any parent will know that getting a stroller up and down steps and along bumpy pavements is tricky enough, to do it with a Segway too seems like more work than it’s actually worth. But honesty in this case we can give her an A for effort, good attempt!

3. Walking The Dog The Easy Way

What it is: Way to walk the dog lazily
What You’ll Need: Golf cart
Estimated Cost to Make: $9,000-$20,000*

We love our furry friends, but we’d be lying if we said they weren’t hard work. Though everyone with a dog no doubt loves their pup, they likely don’t always feel like walking them. However, not walking your dog really isn’t an option.

One woman came up with an ingenious solution that allowed her to kick back and relax while walking her dog. Rather than stroll along on her own two feet, she hopped in her golf car, attached the leash to the cart, and took her dog for a “walk” on four wheels.

4. Protect Yourself From The Elements

What it is: Shade without any effort at all
What You’ll Need: The top half of a stroller
Estimated Cost to Make: Just some elbow grease and an upcycled stroller

Have you ever wished you could also be pushed around in a stroller? Wouldn’t you love to not have to actually walk anywhere and simply be taken from place to place, fed, and even changed when a spill occurs or you spit up your lunch? Well, this is the next best thing, because honestly, why should babies be the only ones with proper shade wherever they go?

Simply take the top half of an old stroller and wear it on your shoulders. This will take all the strain and effort out of holding an umbrella as it will balance quite comfortably, providing that much-needed shade from those pesky UV rays. Also, upcycling means you are doing the environment a favor, so double win!

5. Get A 6-Pack Without The Work Out

What it is: Fake 6 pack
What You’ll Need: Contour Powder
Estimated Cost to Make: $25*

In 2021 our lives are more virtual than ever. The expression “picture or it didn’t happen” is more relevant than ever before and if we don’t share it on our social media then what’s the point really? Since we hardly see each other in real life anyway, it makes getting away with these kinds of little deceptions that much easier.

With a good makeup application you can create all kinds of illusions and your Twitter followers won’t know any better. Simply add shade and light to create the illusion of a six-pack, or perfectly high cheekbones, or any face shape you want really. These are just some of the joys of modern technology.

6. Create The Ultimate Facebook Cover Photo

What it is: Face on a Face on Facebook
What You’ll Need: Some spare time
Estimated Cost to Make: $0*

The cover photo was introduced to Facebook back in 2011 in one of its many new additions and overhauls over the years. The purpose was to allow users to get creative and express themselves more freely and create excitement around something new, which is something the brand is pretty good at doing.

This Facebook user came up with a hilarious and perhaps narcissistic way to use the cover photo and blend it with the profile picture. The only downside to this is that realistically hardly anyone checks each other’s profiles anymore so you will mostly appear as a close-up of a nose with a bit of mouth and eyes on other’s news feeds.

7. Never Get Off The Couch Again

What it is: long straw to avoid moving at all
What You’ll Need: many straws joined up
Estimated Cost to Make: $1.99*

Sometimes a little bit of extra effort in the first place will save you a lot of effort later. Like any great plan, one should set the foundations out beforehand and set oneself up for future success. This long straw can be equated to life: work hard now and play later.

Take several straws and join them together. This process can be frustrating and may not even work, but if it does it will be worth it. Then carefully put the end into the can on the floor and try to get the other end into your mouth without them disconnecting. The other alternative is to simply pick up the can when you want a sip but that would be much less fun.

8. Always Be Prepared to Party

What it is: Bottle opener dog collar
What You’ll Need: A bottle opener and a dog collar
Estimated Cost to Make: $25*

Dogs are wonderful companions, protectors, and friends. They serve a great purpose in their owner’s lives, enriching them and giving purpose. Loved by children and grandparents alike, our furry friends are truly family and we couldn’t imagine life without them by our side.

Now to add a further layer of usefulness, why not put a bottle opener on their collar? It’s true that you could have it on your keys instead but let’s say hypothetically you forgot your keys somewhere and needed a bottle opener? In that very specific case, you will be so happy your pup has a bottle opener at hand. Another reason to love them, as if we needed it.

9. Float in the Sea Like an Old Pop Bottle

What it is: Life vest replacement
What You’ll Need: Many empty bottles
Estimated Cost to Make: $30*

When you are going for a swim but the tides are strong and you don’t want to risk being carried away this could be the solution for you. Provided you drank an enormous and unhealthy amount of soda beforehand, you might just have these soda bottles lying around.

Simply tie the bottles together in a row and secure them around your torso. This is in no way any easier, cheaper, or safer than a real-life vest and should only be used in situations in which the objective is to look absurd and not when you actually need a life vest as it may or may not function as needed.

10. Retrieve Lost Belongings With Ease

What it is: Lost property retrieval
What You’ll Need: Vacuum cleaner
Estimated Cost to Make: $59.99*

We’ve all seen those old buildings with the mystery outdoor space which looks like a balcony but it’s not connected to anyone’s home and it is just a waste of space. Inevitably the area gets full of dirt and dust and very often random items of clothing or other paraphernalia that fell from the windows.

If you are unlucky enough to have lost an item to the mystery balcony space, don’t worry – we can help you get it back! All you need to do is perilously hang your vacuum cleaner out the window while it’s on and it might just catch the item and retrieve it! If not, at least you will have a funny story to tell.

11. If You Don’t Have to Leave the Car – Don’t

What it is: Tank filling hack
What You’ll Need: remarkable flexibility
Estimated Cost to Make: free*

This is a great illustration of why it is important to stay strong and flexible. Core strength is vital in so many situations in our daily lives and can end up saving us many precious minutes, which accumulate into hours and even years of our lives.

If You Don't Have to Leave the Car - Don't @laeilkema / Pinterest.com If You Don't Have to Leave the Car - Don't @laeilkema / Pinterest.com

This incredibly strong and flexible man demonstrates a unique ability to save time by not even having to leave his car when filling up the tank. He twists with grace and stretches far enough to reach the pump and put it into the car. Do your yoga kids, be like this man.

12. Fight Fire Sitting Down

What it is: A hero at work while also chilling out
What You’ll Need: a chair
Estimated Cost to Make: $12.99*

Fire fighting is hard work. Firemen go through extensive training to save and protect us, and for that we are immensely grateful. They need to remain strong and fit, so when an emergency strikes they are ready to slide down the fireman’s pole and get to us in record speed.

Putting out a fire takes time too. Luckily the fire hoses are extremely strong and can reach far distances and high heights. Us non-firemen get regular breaks on the job, so why shouldn’t they? Since they can’t exactly tell the fire, “hey fire, BRB”, they may need to sit down at the job. Seems only fair that they should be able to do just that.

13. Sleeping On Duty or Hard At Work?

What it is: Cardboard cutout security guard
What You’ll Need: Giant picture of a guard with exact matching background
Estimated Cost to Make: $120*

Now this is pure genius. Honestly, this man deserves to retire after this. Anyone wanting to rob that jewelry store would be deterred by the very serious-looking security guard standing outside the store with a large gun. He is so serious about his job that he stands at attention much like the Queen’s Guard outside Buckingham Palace.

All the while, the actual (genius) security guard naps away. Truly he can sleep peacefully in the knowledge that the cardboard guard will keep the store, and his job safe. Hopefully, no one will stop and ask the guard for directions.

14. Just Make Yourself Comfortable

What it is: Lying awkwardly in a public space
What You’ll Need: No shame
Estimated Cost to Make: Free*

Working from home can get lonely and we often crave a change of environment. This is where the cool, hipster coffee shops that allow their patrons to sit for hours and work are really great. You get to enjoy the hustle and bustle of people around you while still being productive and getting your work done. Sometimes we spend more time in these restaurants and coffee shops than we would like to admit.

So much so that we can even forget we are out in public. This is what happened here when this guy somehow sunk so deep between two booth seats that his midsection is hovering awkwardly in the air while his feet rest upon the chair (gross) and his neck strains to see his laptop. Not advisable folks, if you want to lie down at work, rather stay at home.
