Every single day, around 100,000 flights arrive and depart all around the world. That’s millions of people flying every week from thousands of airports across the globe. Chances are, you’ve been on a plane before, so you likely know a little bit about what a lawless, surreal place the airport is.

Fights, passengers sleeping on the floor, TSA periodically yelling at everyone…you see it all in the airport. As you’ll see on this list, no matter whether you’re flying Southwest or Spirit, there is always something going on at the airport.

1. When Your Flight Is Delayed

Location: Denver, Colorado
Year: 2015

Trying to kill time during a layover? Why not try ballet? In 2015, The Daily Mail reported that the State Street Ballet troupe was stuck in an airport in Denver, Colorado, so they decided to pass the time by performing a dance on the walkway.

As passengers hurried past them to catch their flights, the dancers performed a lovely group dance, which was better set for a stage than an airport. Unsurprisingly, this video went viral on sites like Facebook and Twitter.

2. This Pilot

Location: Undisclosed
Year: 2018

No doubt playing a hilarious prank, this pilot pretended to be sight-impaired while walking through the airport, no doubt giving all of his potential passengers quite the fright. Alas, to be a pilot, you cannot be blind.

Your vision has to be 20/40 or better, according to Simple Flying. To be fair, that would disqualify a lot of us, as a lot of people have vision that is lacking. Maybe one day, technology will advance and someone without sight can fly a plane. Who knows?

3. Lost Luggage No More

Location: Undisclosed
Year: 2015

This guy devised a foolproof way to never lose his luggage again. He had a picture of himself screen-printed onto his suitcase, immediately identifying his suitcase as one that couldn’t be lost among the horde of luggage at the airport.

According to Fox, carriers lost two million bags in 2021, which is around half a percent of all the bags ever checked. Of course, during busy times at the airport (holidays, especially), that percentage ticks up to a worrying level.

4. It’s A Neck Pillow

Location: Undisclosed
Year: 2018

This image certainly made us do a double-take. Don’t worry, we’re not showing you a random, naked person (you’ll have to go to other sites besides ours for that!). This woman just happens to be carrying a rather unfortunate-looking neck pillow.

This nude neck pillow, accompanied by a Louis Vuitton purse, is something you can snag on Amazon for cheap. That said, we advise being careful how you carry it, lest you end up in a viral photo.

5. Spilt Puppies, Anyone?

Location: Undisclosed
Year: 2018

Oh no, someone’s spilled their puppies! Flying with puppies is always going to be a tricky thing, but people are always more excited to see a puppy on a plane than they are a human baby (for obvious reasons).

r/pics/Reddit r/pics/Reddit

This is far from the first puppy-related “incident” at the airport. In 2018, a Golden Retriever service dog gave birth to a litter of adorable puppies at an airport in Florida. The dog was getting ready to get on a flight at Tampa’s International Airport, but she went into labor right before boarding. Happily, airport paramedics were there to help her give birth safely.

6. Nap Time

Location: Undisclosed
Year: Undisclosed

Why not pass out in the airport? There’s not much else to do there. Of course, you could be one of those people who works at the airport, powering up their Mac or BRK to be productive.

But, for most of us, when we enter the airport, we’re in a daze. The airport is a surreal location, where you can do a lot of stuff you wouldn’t otherwise. Sleeping in public? Appropriate in the airport, less appropriate out on the street.

7. Weird Al Feeling Squeezed

Location: Undisclosed
Year: Undisclosed

We’ll let you debate whether this man is Weird Al Yankovic. It looks quite a bit like the singer-comedian, though Weird Al isn’t his usual jovial self. The airport appears to have sapped all of his energy.

Or maybe this is just some random guy who is tired of being told he looks like Weird Al. Who knows? Even celebrities, those who don’t want to spring for a private plane, have to fly commercial sometimes (though we doubt they’re flying Spirit).

8. Dad Joke x1000

Location: Undisclosed
Year: 2017

No matter where you go, you can’t get away from dad jokes. You could fly halfway around the world, and you’d still be the recipient of an errant pun or dorky joke that you didn’t ask for. Rebecca knows that better than anyone.

r/funny/Reddit r/funny/Reddit

According to the person who posted this photo on Reddit, young Rebecca was flying by herself for the first time. To meet her at the airport when she deplaned, her dad wore a Darth Vader costume and carried the sign, “REBECCA. I am your Father.”

9. Strangers Turned Besties

Location: Undisclosed
Year: 2021

According to the person from whom this image originated, he was flying home for the holidays and wanted to jokingly surprise his family. So, he wore a hilarious-looking Christmas-themed suit that he thought was one-of-a-kind.

r/all/Reddit r/all/Reddit

As it turned out, someone else at the airport had ordered the same suit in a different color on Amazon, and the two ran into each other. Of course, they became instant “best friends,” as they shared the same sense of humor.

10. Stop Coning Around

Location: Prague, Czechia
Year: 2023

Hey, we’ve all been bored at work before and needed to lighten the mood. One group of ground crew workers was caught horsing around with some traffic cones (hopefully, spare ones that weren’t needed at the time).

r/funny/Reddit r/funny/Reddit

One worker assembled five traffic cones onto his limbs and head, turning himself into a DIY version of the Demogorgon from Stranger Things. Hopefully, he didn’t get in trouble for this stunt, as it was a hilarious break from the drudgery of flying.

11. Only In Tel Aviv

Location: Tel Aviv, Israel
Year: 2010s

Tel Aviv is one of Israel’s most famous cities, famous for its century-long history as a hub of the Jewish faith. Tel Aviv is home to many different sects of Judaism, some of whom prefer more traditional garb, like these men.

user/iveydesign/Reddit user/iveydesign/Reddit

These two traditional men didn’t seem to know what they were leaning up against, leading to this viral photo. The top half of the image in question is a traditional religious man, and the bottom half is a bikini-wearing woman. Quite the mix-up!

12. American Airlines Ground Worker Dance Routine

Location: Toronto, Canada
Year: 2019

Jahmaul Allen is a worker at the Toronto Pearson International Airport, and he is known for not only being a hard worker, but also being a great dancer. In 2019, he saw a crying child on board a plane, and he wanted to make her cheer up.

@jahflix/Instagram @jahflix/Instagram

So, he busted out some dance moves, using his air traffic control wands as accessories. Surely, the American Airlines worker’s ploy worked, and Allen not only cheered up his little friend, he also went viral on Twitter.

13. Meanwhile at Chicago O’Hare

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Year: 2017

Found at Chicago O’Hare International Airport was this sign, which states, “EMERGENCY PHONE IS OUT OF SERVICE. Please do not have an emergency at this location.” Fair enough, we’ll try.

r/pics/Reddit r/pics/Reddit

Thank goodness everyone has cell phones nowadays, or this emergency landline’s dysfunction would be a serious problem. Instead, it ended up becoming a lighthearted meme, though, hopefully, Chicago fixed this phone ASAP before the FAA came calling.

14. Uh Oh Michelle

Location: Undisclosed
Year: 2021

“WELCOME HOME MICHELLE I KNOW YOU CHEATED,” reads this sign, which provided quite a bit of entertainment for every passenger except Michelle. If we were Michelle, we’d have just kept on walking.

r/funny/Reddit r/funny/Reddit

The finishing touch of this image isn’t just the man’s casual, devil-may-care pose, it’s also the balloon he has in his hand. The person on Reddit who posted this image stated, “I saw this majesty today while visiting the airport.” A majesty (and travesty), indeed.
