There’s nothing better after a long day at work than curling up on the couch with a bag of microwave popcorn and your favorite show on the television. Shows bring us comfort, which is why it’s always upsetting when a favorite series gets canceled.

Networks like Disney’s ABC decide to keep or cancel a show based on a lot of factors, including viewership rates, popularity with the times, and, of course, whether the show is actually making any money.  If your show is canceled, don’t be too down, as there might be a spinoff or reboot in the near future. After all, it’s all about bringing in revenue and the entertainment business has that down to a fine art.

Here, we’ll tell you the status of your favorite shows—namely, whether they’ve been renewed or canceled, plus just how much the stars earn, how some shows have production costs upward of $1 million per episode, and whether these factors led to the show’s untimely demise. 1. The Curse

However, the narrative took an unexpected turn when Asher found himself inexplicably sleeping on the ceiling.The bizarre events escalated, leading to Asher being flung into outer space.

The unconventional conclusion has sparked curiosity, prompting speculation about a potential follow-up season that could unravel the mysteries surrounding Asher’s fate. All episodes are available for streaming on Paramount+ with the Showtime add-on. Alas, there is no word yet as to whether or not there will be a second season of this hit show.

2. Lawman: Bass Reeves

Status: Renewed 
Network: Paramount+
Est. Cost: $10-$15 million per episode*

David Oyelowo’s astounding portrayal of Bass Reeves, the trailblazing Black U.S. Marshal, captivated audiences in the television series Lawmen: Bass Reeves. The show delved into Reeves’ historic achievements, highlighting his remarkable feat of making over 3,000 arrests without sustaining a single injury. Oyelowo and the exceptional cast brought this incredible real-life story to television with unparalleled brilliance.

While the official confirmation of the show’s return remains pending, “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” operates as an anthology series, suggesting that future seasons could explore new lawmen and their compelling stories. The series stands as a testament to Oyelowo’s transformative performance and the gripping narrative of law enforcement history.

3. Rabbit Hole

Status: Canceled 
Network: Paramount+ 
Est. Cost: $5-$10 million per episode*

Paramount+ has decided to cancel the spy drama Rabbit Hole, starring Kiefer Sutherland, after just one season. Despite Sutherland expressing hopes for a renewal in a recent TV Insider interview, the show’s cancellation aligns with Paramount+’s cost-cutting strategy, resulting in the removal of multiple titles.

The cancellation includes other series like Star Trek: Prodigy, The Harper House, and the iCarly reboot. The move disappointed fans, and the fate of the anthology series, which explored espionage with Sutherland as John Weir, remains uncertain. While the series won’t return, Rabbit Hole will continue to be available for streaming on PARA.

4. Lessons In Chemistry

Est. Cost: $1-$3 million per episode*

Set in the 1950s, Lessons in Chemistry centers around Brie Larson’s character, Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant chemist turned cooking show host in the series Supper at Six. Addressing feminist themes, the show awaits news of its renewal for a second season on Apple  TV+.

However, since the show is based on a book, it won’t be returning for another season. The streaming service evaluates various metrics, considering initial viewership, drop-off rates, and completion rates before making decisions. Despite positive reviews for Larson’s compelling portrayal of Zott, the fate of the series is sealed with this one season.

5. Secret Invasion

Status: Canceled
Network: Disney+ 
Est. Cost: $212 million total budget*

As Secret Invasion concludes its first season on Disney+, questions arise about its future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). 6. Special Ops: Lioness

While there’s been no official confirmation on renewal, the title hints at the possibility of expanding the Special Ops universe. Moreover, the demand for the high-octane thriller suggests a promising continuation, indicating that a second season is likely on the horizon.

7. The Mayfair Witches

AMC has officially renewed Mayfair Witches for a second season, marking a successful continuation in the Anne Rice Immortal Universe. The drama premiered on January 8, earning a strong .11 rating in adults 18-49 on linear. Surpassing “Interview with the Vampire,” the series claimed the title of the No. 1 new series premiere on AMC+.

8. The Night Agent

While WBD has yet to announce the fate of the show for Season 3, the positive statistics of the current season, including viewer and critic consensus, IMDb scores, and reception on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes, suggest a likely renewal. Fans can anticipate more episodes exploring border seizures, revealing the hidden world of contraband.

12. Kitchen Nightmares
