A growing number of companies outside the technology sector are seeing demand for their products and services rise as a result of the AI data center buildout, UBS says, a spillover effect it argues is broader than widely appreciated.

Economists led by Jonathan Pingle estimated an "AI multiplier" of roughly 1.5 across business fixed investment, meaning that for every 1 percentage point direct tech investment contributes to real GDP growth, non-tech components of business investment contribute an additional 0.5 percentage point.

"That is also a much higher multiplier than that of other types of investment," the economists wrote.
