UBS downgrades Stellantis on stalled U.S. turnaround

Investing.com -- UBS downgraded Stellantis (NYSE: STLA) to Neutral from Buy in a note on Monday, saying its thesis of a U.S. recovery has failed to play out despite a healthy market backdrop.

Analyst Patrick Hummel said the downgrade reflects "too little progress on US turnaround in a healthy sector environment."

The drop-through from higher volumes has been surprisingly low, elevated dealer stock levels require production cuts or higher incentives in the second half, and customer uptake of new products has lagged previous guidance.

Investing.com -- Stellantis said Monday that preliminary second-quarter vehicle sales rose 10% year-on-year to nearly 1.6 million units, driven primarily by strong growth in its North American market.

North American shipments surged 38% to 445,000 units, supported by new or refreshed models including the V8-powered Ram light-duty truck, the new Ram 1500 TRX SRT, the refreshed Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee, and the refreshed Chrysler Pacifica. The continued ramp-up of the all-new Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Charger also contributed to the gains.

Morgan on Thursday downgraded Stellantis (BIT:STLAM) (NYSE:STLA) to Neutral from Overweight and nearly halved its price target to €6 from €10, saying the automaker still needs roughly 14 months before cost savings from cheaper component purchases feed through into new model launches slated for 2027-28.
