S&P Global shares rise on report of possible CapIQ spinoff

Investing.com -- S&P Global Inc. is exploring a potential spinoff of its Capital IQ Pro data and research platform, a move that could create a standalone company valued in the high single-digit billions of dollars, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

Shares of S&P Global reversed earlier losses and traded more than 3% higher following the report.

The company is said to be in early discussions about options for the unit, which could include establishing a publicly listed entity.

The deliberations are preliminary, and S&P Global may choose not to proceed with any transaction involving the business, commonly known as CapIQ, the report said.

S&P Global (NYSE: SPGI) has completed its acquisition of datacenterHawk, a provider of intelligence for global data center, fiber optic, and related infrastructure markets, the company said in a press release.

datacenterHawk is now part of S&P Global Energy, where it will combine its asset-level data on data center supply, demand, pricing, pipelines, and site selection — including its FiberLocator platform — with S&P Global Energy's coverage of global power markets and research from 451 Research.

S&P Global (NYSE: SPGI) has completed the divestiture of its geoscience and petroleum engineering software portfolio to SLB, the companies announced Sept. 1, 2026.

The transaction, first announced in April 2026, transfers the upstream energy software tools to SLB while establishing a strategic alliance under which S&P Global Energy will continue to distribute its proprietary data through the divested workflow tools.

Financial terms were not disclosed. S&P Global said the divestiture is not expected to have a material impact on its financial results or those of its Energy division.
