Novartis reports positive biomarker results for experimental FSHD treatment

Novartis (NYSE: NVS) announced that its experimental treatment del-brax met primary and key secondary endpoints in the biomarker cohort of the FORTITUDE Phase I/II study for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD).

The study showed reductions in KHDC1L and creatine kinase biomarker levels, indicating target engagement and reduced muscle damage in FSHD patients. Del-brax is an investigational antibody oligonucleotide conjugate designed to suppress DUX4 expression in muscle cells.

"The FORTITUDE biomarker cohort data importantly replicate the target engagement and downstream muscle protection seen with del-brax in earlier dose-escalation cohorts," said Nazem Atassi, Global Head, Neuroscience and Gene Therapy Development at Novartis.

Novartis AG (NYSE: NVS) will present data from 10 research abstracts at the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Congress in 2026. The presentations will focus on Rhapsido (remibrutinib), the company's BTK inhibitor treatment.

The data includes results from the Phase III RemIND trial examining Rhapsido's effectiveness in chronic inducible urticaria and extension data from the Phase IIIb REMIXED trial in chronic spontaneous urticaria. Two late-breaking oral presentations are scheduled for June 12.

The abstracts cover multiple conditions including chronic spontaneous urticaria, chronic inducible urticaria, and food allergy. One presentation will examine remibrutinib's efficacy and safety in adults with IgE-mediated peanut

Novartis (NYSE: NVS) announced results from its ALIGN Phase III trial showing that Vanrafia (atrasentan) slowed kidney function decline compared to placebo in adults with IgA nephropathy over 2.5 years.

The trial measured estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) changes, with Vanrafia showing an annualized eGFR slope of -2.7 mL/min/1.73 m²/year compared to -4.1 for placebo, representing approximately 34% slower decline. At the end of treatment at week 132, eGFR change from baseline was -6.9 for Vanrafia versus -9.5 for placebo.

Novartis reports positive 144-week data for Scemblix in CML trial

Novartis (NYSE: NVS) announced 144-week results from the ASC4FIRST trial of Scemblix (asciminib) for newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia patients at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting.

The trial compared Scemblix to standard-of-care tyrosine kinase inhibitors including imatinib and second-generation TKIs in adult patients with newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase. At week 144, Scemblix achieved a major molecular response rate of 77.1% compared to 53.4% for standard-of-care TKIs.

When compared specifically to imatinib, Scemblix demonstrated a 79.2% major molecular response rate versus 47.1% for imatinib. Against second-generation TKIs, Scemblix achieved 75.0% compared to 59.8%.
