This is the world's highest-ROIC airline company: Analyst

Bernstein analyst Alex Irving has reiterated an Outperform rating on an airline that had an “astonishingly strong” 28% ROIC in 2025, and which is dealing with current fuel challenges better than its competitors while its Commercial market share continues to grow.

The airline in question, Iberia, owned by International Consolidated Airlines Group (LON: ICAG) (OTC: ICAGY), is “the airline to beat” according to the analyst.

“Iberia consistently impresses…Europe-Latin America is booming, as is premium demand, and Iberia is capitalizing on this,” the analyst said, noting that Spain’s flagship airline “far outstrips” the rest of the world-class airline businesses including BA, Copa, Emirates

As jet fuel prices continue to surge while the war in the Middle East wages on, airlines are expected to struggle to meet targets. However, one airline in particular is seen as better positioned than most others, say Bernstein analysts, even as management acknowledges that demand may be insufficient to make up for the higher cost.

International Consolidated Airlines Group (LON: IAG) (OTC: ICAGY), unlike some airlines, is not counting on demand to be inelastic enough to cover the higher fuel prices, the firm said, and is approaching the problem taking that into account.
