Gilead Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ: GILD) announced that its Phase 3 IDEAL trial of Livdelzi (seladelpar) met its primary endpoint in patients with primary biliary cholangitis who had alkaline phosphatase levels between normal and 1.67 times the upper limit of normal.

The 52-week study showed statistically significant composite ALP normalization compared to placebo in patients with inadequately controlled disease despite treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid or those intolerant to UDCA. The primary endpoint was defined as ALP levels at or below 1.0 times the upper limit of normal plus at least a 15% decrease from baseline.

The trial enrolled 96 adults aged 18-75 years

RBC Capital analyst Brian Abrahams reiterated a Sector Perform rating and $122.00 price target on Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ: GILD).

The analyst commented: "Expect Biktarvy Resilience, But GILD May Be A Victim Of Their Own Success; We hosted a panel with two top KOLs discussing current and next-gen HIV/PrEP options, particularly timely with expected nearterm progress/data with several competitive regimens. KOLs sound more enthusiastic than expected about potential of GILD's late-stage bic/len regimen (though more incremental market expansion rather than life cycle conversion), expressed confidence yearly IM Yeztugo will improve profile and potentially expand LT PrEP opportunity, and expect resilient Biktarvy use

Gilead Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ: GILD) reported interim data from its Phase 3 ASSURE study showing that Livdelzi (seladelpar) achieved sustained normalization of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels in patients with primary biliary cholangitis who had mildly elevated baseline levels.

In a post hoc analysis of 50 participants with baseline ALP levels between 1.0 and 1.67 times the upper limit of normal, 83% achieved composite ALP normalization at 12 months and 74% maintained this response at 24 months. The composite endpoint was defined as ALP levels at or below the upper limit of normal with at least a 15% reduction from baseline.

Gilead Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ: GILD) announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted accelerated approval for Hepcludex (bulevirtide-gmod) 8.5 mg to treat adults with chronic hepatitis delta virus infection. The drug represents the first FDA-approved treatment for HDV in the United States.

The FDA based its accelerated approval on reductions in HDV RNA and normalization of alanine aminotransferase levels, supported primarily by data from the Phase 3 MYR301 study. At week 48, the study demonstrated statistically significant improvement versus the control group in combined virologic and biochemical response. The approval notes that improvement in disease-related clinical outcomes has not been established,
