Sterling's stunning rally keeps twitchy currency markets on edge

LONDON (Reuters) -Sterling has hit roughly 2-1/2 years highs against the dollar and is flying high versus the euro, in moves analysts warn are underpinned by speculative interest rate bets that could unravel fast in markets still shaken by early August turmoil.

At around $1.32, Britain's pound has soared beyond most analysts' target prices for this year.

Gables Residential Trust (NYSE: GBP) and a private equity partnership sponsored by ING Clarion Partners, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ING Groep, NV of the Netherlands, announced today that a partnership managed by ING Clarion has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Company for $43.50 per share in cash.

UBS Securities upgraded Gables Residential Trust (NYSE: GBP) from Reduce to Neutral. The firm based their upgrade on valuation. In addition, they cited that a sustained low interest rate environment, a more benign inflation outlook in the near-term and improving fundamentals.
