European defense stocks remain on edge as geopolitical uncertainty and headline-driven volatility continue to dominate investor sentiment, according to Bernstein.

The recent cancellation of a potential peace meeting between Russian and Ukrainian leaders—following Vladimir Putin’s decision not to attend the Turkey summit—triggered a sharp rally in defense shares.

“Headlines will likely continue driving the sector in coming weeks. Hence, volatility should remain elevated, amplified on the downside by the demanding valuations,” Bernstein strategists led by Douglas S. Harned said in a note.

“There remains high uncertainty regarding the length of the war and how the U.S. will engage on it,” they added.
