Jefferies: Credit Trends and Bank Dispersion Define Brazil's Week

Investing.com -- Payroll loans, asset quality and profitability gaps dominated discussion of Brazilian banks last week, according to Jefferies, with credit trends emerging as the central concern as expectations for rate cuts diminish.

Regulatory measures intended to control payroll loan supply may produce unintended consequences, Jefferies noted. Specialized lenders could respond by offering unsecured loans to top up payroll credit limits at higher spreads. Unsecured lending rates in the INSS segment can exceed payroll rates by more than four times, creating incentive for such shifts.

The private payroll segment has grown from approximately 40 billion Brazilian reals to approximately 102 billion reals

Bank of America expects Brazil growth to slow despite positive first quarter data

Investing.com -- Brazil's industrial production rose 0.1% in March on a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, according to Bank of America analysts, marking a slowdown from February's 0.9% expansion but exceeding forecasts that anticipated a 0.9% contraction.

The yearly comparison showed industrial production increased 4.3%, up from a 0.7% decline in the previous month. Bank of America noted that three additional business days in March 2026 compared to March 2025 partially explained the strong annual growth rate. Momentum reached 1.0%, compared to 0.3% in February.

All four main industrial categories posted monthly gains. Capital goods grew 0.6%, intermediate goods expanded 0.5%, and consumption

Passive Funds Resume EM Inflows in April, Taiwan and Brazil Lead says Morgan Stanley

Investing.com -- Passive long-only funds resumed buying emerging market equities in April after purchasing $12.0 billion, according to Morgan Stanley's Asia Flows & Positioning Guide. Taiwan, Brazil and China led the inflows, while active foreign funds sold $0.7 billion during the month.

Stock exchange data showed foreigners bought $8.4 billion of Taiwan equities and $22.4 billion of Japanese equities in April. Korea saw $0.6 billion in net foreign purchases. India and Indonesia recorded outflows of $5.2 billion and $1.0 billion respectively.
