Ciena Corporation (NYSE: CIEN) completed its private offering of $2.875 billion in 0.00% convertible senior notes due 2031, the company announced. The offering included $375 million from the initial purchasers' full exercise of their option to purchase additional notes.

The telecommunications equipment company used the net proceeds to execute convertible note hedge and warrant transactions, repurchase approximately 0.3 million shares of common stock, repay about $1.14 billion of its existing term loan, and cover related fees and expenses. Ciena plans to use remaining proceeds for supply chain capacity investments and general corporate purposes.

Colt and Ciena complete quantum-safe transatlantic data transmission trial

Colt Technology Services and Ciena (NYSE: CIEN) completed a quantum-safe data transmission trial across a 6,900-kilometer route between New York and London. The trial transmitted data at an 800 gigabit Ethernet service rate using Ciena's WaveLogic 6 Extreme encryption solution across Colt's subsea and terrestrial network infrastructure.

The transmission used post-quantum cryptography algorithms compliant with National Institute of Standards and Technology standards. These encryption methods are designed to protect against future quantum computing threats that could break traditional encryption as early as 2030, according to the companies' statement.
