Bionano Genomics names Alex Hastie as chief scientific officer

Bionano Genomics (NASDAQ: BNGO) has appointed Alex Hastie, Ph.D., as chief scientific officer, effective July 20, 2026, according to a company press release.

Hastie previously spent 14 years at Bionano, where he contributed to the development of the company's optical genome mapping (OGM) technology. He most recently worked in genomic testing in oncology for diagnosis and therapy selection before returning to the San Diego-based company.

In his new role, Hastie will oversee Bionano's scientific strategy, innovation roadmap, and research initiatives. The company said his focus will include strengthening clinical and research collaborations, expanding evidence generation, and broadening OGM applications for clinical research

Bionano Genomics (Nasdaq: BNGO) said 35 studies featuring optical genome mapping (OGM) were presented at the 2026 European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) conference, up from 21 at the 2025 event, a 67% year-over-year increase, according to a press release from the San Diego-based company.

Authors of the studies spanned 17 countries, compared with 12 countries at the prior year's conference, across five regions: Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and the Middle East. Europe contributed the most studies overall, while Brazil was the single largest national contributor.

Bionano retires $20 million convertible debt, eliminates secured obligations

Bionano Genomics Inc. (NASDAQ: BNGO) announced it has fully retired and cancelled all outstanding Senior Secured Convertible Debentures worth $20 million in aggregate face value. The company used cash on hand to retire the debt instruments, which were originally issued in May 2024.

The retirement eliminates all of Bionano's secured debt obligations and releases liens on the company's assets. Associated restrictive covenants have been extinguished, according to the company's statement.
