Astrotech forms advisory board for NASA lunar infrastructure bid

Astrotech Corporation (Nasdaq: ASTC) announced the formation of a Strategic Advisory Board with four initial members to support its lunar resources and infrastructure initiative and a planned proposal under NASA's NextSTEP-3 Appendix A: Lunar Enabling Infrastructure Accelerator solicitation.

The four appointed advisors are Dennis Wingo, co-founder and chief technology officer of SpaceBilt; retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. John M. Olson, Ph.D., chairman and chief executive of AXIONS Corporation; Clive R. Neal, Ph.D., a professor at the University of Notre Dame and two-time chair of NASA's Lunar Exploration Analysis Group; and Gregory R. Baiden, Ph.D., chief executive of Penguin Automated Systems

Astrotech unit plans early-stage commercial lunar power network

Astrotech Corporation (Nasdaq: ASTC) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Lunar Power and Light Corporation (LP&L), intends to develop a commercial power-generation, energy-storage, and distribution network on the moon, according to a press release from the Austin, Texas-based company.

LP&L's proposed system would use sun-tracking solar towers, battery storage, autonomous controls, surface transmission lines, metering, and recharge stations at a high-illumination lunar polar location. The plan calls for solar generation to serve customer loads during sunlit periods, with stored energy supplying the grid when solar output is insufficient.
