Microsoft (MSFT) Could Make Strong App Development Push with Next Acquisition
Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) might be making a key acquisition as its looking to expand mobile app development.
Reports on Tuesday have San Franciso-based Xamarin a potential acquisition target of Microsoft. Xamarin produces tools for creating apps in C#. The tools can be used for Apple iOS and Google Android app creation, as well.
News would come ahead of Microsoft's annual Build conference next month and send a strong message to developers that the company is strongly supporting app expansion under new CEO Satya Nadella.
Developers would be able to code apps using Microsoft Visual Studio and app life-cycle management tools like Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (TFS), CRN commented today.
This could mean an explosion of apps which tie into Microsoft Azure and other services.
Microsoft would benefit from a broader opportunity in services, as well as licensing tied to Visual Studio, TFS, and more.
Shares of Microsoft are up over 4 percent.
