Windows Phone (MSFT) Outpaced iPhone Sales in One Key European Market Last Year
Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone platform hasn't made nearly as big of a splash in the U.S. as it has in other parts of the world.
Notably, news out over the weekend had Windows Phone grabbing significant market share in another European market: Romania. The Romanian news source ZF.ro said Windows Phone makes up over 10 percent of the market. Data came from research firm GfK and was later affirmed by Microsoft.
ZF.ro also said Windows Phone sales were four-times better in 2013 than in 2012, citing a Vodafone rep on the information. This means that Windows Phone may have outsold Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhones in Romania last year.
Shares of Microsoft are up 1.4 percent.
