Tesla (TSLA) CEO Musk Affirms Plans for AWD Model S, Higher-Capacity Battery

February 6, 2014 10:08 AM
Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) is active today following more news on future vehicle plans.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Amsterdam recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk affirmed plans to release an all-wheel drive (AWD) version of its Model S sedan. The option might be available this year, or early 2015 as Model X production ramps.

As expected, Tesla is also working on a higher-capacity battery, which may also debut sometime in 2015.

Tesla is working on new seat designs. Current owners would be able to receive a seat modification in the future following introduction of the new design. It wasn't made clear whether or not owners are disappointed with the current seat ergonomics in the Model S.

Superchargers are coming online at a rate of five per week and will eventually have a maximum 135-kWh current.

Model S owners will receive software update Version 6.0 within a few weeks, which adds real-time traffic data and more control over ride height and suspension, among other updates.

Shares of Tesla are up 2.5 percent. The video of Musk is embedded below:
