Knock-Off Apple (AAPL) iPhone 5c to Land in Japan
Why buy an Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 5c when you can get a pretty sweet knockoff version instead?
According to CNET, that's just what's happening in Japan. The report has handset maker Iosys debuting its IoPhone5 on Friday. The device runs on Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android .2, has 480 X 854 resolution, 2-megapixel (MP) camera, 512-megabytes of RAM, and 4-gigabytes of flash memory.
While the specs pale in comparison to the actual iPhone 5c, the price of Iosys' offering is ¥15,490 (about $150), which is notably below the base price of an iPhone 5c.
Based on how the iPhone 5c is reportedly selling, maybe Iosys should have went after the higher-end iPhone 5s instead?
Shares of Apple are lower early Thursday morning.
