Skies Darken for Microsoft (MSFT) Ahead of Xbox One Launch (SNE)
Just one-week following the release of Sony's (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation 4 gaming console, Microsoft will unleash its Xbox One to the masses on Friday, November 22nd. But, will anyone be waiting in line for the latest-and-greatest out of Redmond, Wa.?
Noted tech site CNET basically summed up why Microsoft could have done a much better job with the Xbox One, which has been a project eight-years in the making. The review is extensive and covers many areas, but here's the initial summary given by the site:
The Xbox One goes beyond gaming with its ambitious live TV integration, but at launch it can't deliver a knockout blow to the PS4 due to a higher price and uneven voice control. We suggest you wait for improvements, but for now, the Xbox One is better suited to forgiving early adopters.
It seems that the only thing to like about the Xbox is that its a new Xbox.
We don't need to tell anyone how big this device is for Microsoft. More than just unit sales, the device is supposed to be somewhat of a
gateway drugto other areas of Microsoft, which may boost sales of software, tables, smartphones, PCs, and more.
Should CNET's review prove true, investors might be hoping Microsoft has a plan B for keeping the company front-and-center with the key 18- to 35-year-old demographic. You can read the full CNET review here.
Shares of Microsoft are modestly higher early Wednesday.
