Tesla's (TSLA) Musk Thinks Hydrogen-Powered Cars are BS

October 23, 2013 10:56 AM
If hydrogen-powered autos were the wave of the future, don't you think Elon Musk would have built the Model S around it? Exactly.

In a video that has been circling the web (embedded below), Musk calls hydrogen fuel cells bullsh*t and thinks that they're more of a marketing ploy for automakers than the future of automotive technology. In the video, Musk stated, And then they’ll say certain technologies like fuel cell … oh god … fuel cell is so bullsh*t. Except in a rocket.

Musk explained that even the best hydrogen fuel cell technology doesn't have nearly the energy storage capacity as a lithium-ion battery pack, which is used in the Model S.

While Musk might be a little biased, the recent gains in investor sentiment for Tesla show that there are other believers out there. We've started the video at the 29 minute mark, which is when Musk starts talking.
