Intel (INTC) Plans Mobile Chip Pricing Shakeup in Q214

October 15, 2013 9:27 AM
Intel's (Nasdaq: INTC) move to break further into the Android handset arena will get stronger in the first-half of 2014.

Digitimes said today that Intel will begin offering entry-level versions of its Bay Trail processor in Q214. The CPUs are expected to price at $15 to $20 each, which is roughly $12 under current models.

Intel has been offering discounts on other versions of its Bay Trail-line of CPUs, include 10 percent off bulk purchases. But, selling at an average price of $32 to $37 each hasn't put the chips in a more-competitive position versus ARM (Nasdaq: ARMH)-based offerings.

Market watchers suspect that the latest move by Intel will put it in a more-competitive position relative to Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM), NVIDIA (Nasdaq: NVDA), and Mediatek.

Shares of Intel are lower in early trading.
