Components for Ho-Hum, Next-Gen Apple (AAPL) iPhone to Ship Soon

March 21, 2013 9:24 AM
Components for Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) next-generation iPhone are expected to ship at the end of May, girding for a potential launch of the device sometime in the third quarter.

But, don't get too excited yet.

According to sources cited by Digitimes, the next iPhone won't get a major upgrade from the current iPhone 5. The 'iPhone 5S' will feature a better processor and higher-resolution camera, sources cited, noting specification sheets for the news.

The rumor of Apple releasing a lower-cost iPhone with a plastic chassis is also alive.

Component makers are expected to see top-line growth of 30 percent in the second quarter.

Current speculation also has Apple shipping 25 million to 30 million iPhone 5s in calendar first-quarter 2013, versus 38.5 million speculated by ITG last week.

Shares of Apple are lower early Thursday.
