Could Blackstone (BX) Tap an Oracle (ORCL) Exec to Run Dell (DELL) in Potential Bid?

March 20, 2013 5:31 PM
One of the best rumors today has to do with yesterday's speculation that Blackstone (NYSE: BX) will come with an over-the-top bid for Dell (Nasdaq: DELL).

But, what if Michael Dell budge from partnering with Silver Lake? What then?

Blackstone would like to work with Dell and Dell has said in the past that he's willing to "vote pro rata with the unaffiliated stockholders on any superior transaction recommended by the Special Committee or, at his option, in favor of such transaction," noted Fortune today. Blackstone may also be prepping a management overhaul plan.

The leading choice to lead Dell is rumored to be Mark Hurd, president at Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) and former CEO at Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ). Recruiting is said to be "aggressive." Former Compaq chief Michael Capellas has also been mentioned.

Should Blackstone move on Dell, having leverage of another seasoned leader in the clip could pique shareholder interest. Of course, all of this is speculation right now.

Dell ended the session up modestly, but is still positive in late trading.
