Google (GOOG) Aims to Push Amazon (AMZN) Prime Down to Secondary
For those that have used it, Amazon.com's (Nasdaq: AMZN) Amazon Prime is a pretty decent service. For about $80 per year, you get free two-day shipping, streaming movies and TV, and an eBook lending library if you own a Kindle. That kind of offering has other clamoring to steal subscribers.
According to TechCrunch, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is looking to oust Amazon Prime with its own offering, "Google Shopping Express." Sources said the service would be about $10 to $15 cheaper than Amazon Prime, too.
Google might work with names like Target (NYSE: TGT), Walgreens (NYSE: WAG), Wal-mart (NYSE: WMT), and Safeway (NYSE: SWY), among others, to offer same-day delivery.
Other competitors include eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) Now and Postmates' "Get It Now," TechCrunch noted.
"Google Shopping Express" would be a way for Google to consolidate its Google Wallet and Google Shopping initiatives into one focal point.
With Amazon largely leading growth in e-Commerce amid toughening competition, it doesn't look like it will get too much easier from here on out, particularly if Google is serious about getting in the game.
Shares of Amazon and Google are indicated for a higher open Tuesday.
