RIM (RIMM) Drops Amid Rollout of Lower BlackBerry World Pricing Schemes
Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) is slipping today following an update on its BlackBerry World pricing scheme following the launch of BlackBerry 10 (BB10).
According to a company blog post the lowest tier will be £0.75, from a prior level of €1.00. Europe will see variable pricing, though RIM cited the lowest tier in France moving from €0.99 to €0.89.
RIM's Alex Kinsell comments, "This price tier update includes updated currency exchange rates and VAT requirements. These updates will help to position your content items to be more competitive and attractive to customers in the UK and Eurozone markets. The goal of this adjustment is to ensure prices are in line with currency fluctuations and ensure content within BlackBerry World is competitive."
RIM shares are down 3.7 percent, but off of session lows.
