BWXT signs multi-year TRISO fuel deal with Antares Nuclear

October 27, 2026 8:05 AM

BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) announced that its BWXT Advanced Fuels subsidiary has entered into a multi-year commercial agreement with Antares Nuclear, Inc. for the production of tri-structural isotropic (TRISO) nuclear fuel.

The agreement establishes an initial allocation of 1 metric ton of uranium, with provisions to increase supply as Antares' advanced reactor program expands. The fuel will be manufactured at BWXT's Lynchburg, Virginia, facility, using the same TRISO fabrication line previously used to produce fuel for the Department of War's Project Pele and Antares' Mark-0 reactors.

Earlier this year, BWXT-produced fuel supported Antares' Mark-0 reactor criticality milestone. Antares, founded in 2023 and backed by over $600 million in funding, develops compact microreactors for defense and space applications.

"We achieved criticality with BWXT fuel, and it's what will power our electricity producing reactor, Mark-1, in 2027," said Jordan Bramble, CEO and Co-Founder of Antares. "Securing that same line through the end of the decade means our first production deployments run on fuel from a team and a process we've already proven."

Joe Miller, president of BWXT Government Operations, said the agreement allows the company to support Antares "in a sustained, predictable way" as demand grows across the advanced reactor sector.

Fuel deliveries under the agreement will be governed by a series of future task orders specifying quantities, delivery schedules, and technical requirements. Antares has said it plans to begin initial production deployments to U.S. military installations in 2028.
