Antares signs TRISO fuel deal with BWXT through end of decade

October 27, 2026 8:00 AM

Antares has signed a commercial agreement with BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) to procure TRISO fuel fabricated from High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) for its microreactors through the end of the decade, according to a press release from the company.

The fuel will be produced at BWXT's facility in Lynchburg, Virginia, on the same fabrication line used for the Department of War's Project Pele and for Antares' Mark-0 and Mark-1 reactors.

The agreement covers an initial allocation of one metric ton of uranium (1 MTU), with the option to increase based on Antares' deployment schedule. This is Antares' second TRISO fuel fabrication agreement, following a prior deal with Standard Nuclear, giving the company two qualified fuel sources for reactor deployments.

"We achieved criticality with BWXT fuel, and it's what will power our electricity-producing reactor, Mark-1, in 2027," said Jordan Bramble, CEO and Co-Founder of Antares. "Securing that same line through the end of the decade means our first production deployments run on fuel from a team and a process we've already proven."

Joe Miller, president of BWXT Government Operations, said the agreement allows BWXT to apply its fuel manufacturing capabilities "in a sustained, predictable way."

Antares was founded in 2023 and says it achieved initial criticality of its Mark-0 microreactor in 2026 under the Department of Energy's Reactor Pilot Program. The company says it is on track to produce electricity from the Mark-1 reactor in 2027, with initial deployments to U.S. military installations planned for 2028.
