Audi and Universal Display mark 10 years of OLED automotive lighting
Universal Display Corporation (Nasdaq: OLED) and Audi marked a decade of OLED lighting technology in Audi production vehicles, following an event held in Ingolstadt, Germany. OLEDWorks also participated in the recognition.
Audi first introduced OLED rear lighting in the Audi TT RS in 2016. Since then, the technology has expanded across Audi's vehicle portfolio to include customizable digital light signatures, visibility features and vehicle communication capabilities.
"We congratulate Audi on reaching this important milestone and celebrating ten years of bringing OLED technology to the road," said Steven V. Abramson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Display Corporation. "Audi's commitment to innovation has helped expand the possibilities of automotive lighting, and we are proud that Universal Display's OLED technologies and energy-efficient phosphorescent materials have contributed to this journey."

Dr. Werner Thomas, Project Manager for OLED lighting at Audi AG, said the technology has evolved from a design feature into a platform combining design, functionality and vehicle communication. "OLED lighting has enabled us to create distinctive customer experiences while continually reimagining the role of light within the vehicle," he said.
David DeJoy, Chief Executive Officer of OLEDWorks, noted that collaboration across the supply chain contributed to the development of the company's Atala automotive OLED lighting platform.
According to a press release, Audi, Universal Display and OLEDWorks stated they continue to explore further applications for OLED lighting in vehicle design, functionality and communication. Universal Display, founded in 1994, holds more than 7,000 issued and pending patents worldwide related to OLED technologies and materials.
