Illumina adds three tools to BioInsight genomics platform

October 21, 2026 9:15 AM

Illumina, Inc. (NASDAQ: ILMN) announced three early-access software capabilities for its BioInsight Platform on Oct. 21, 2026, introduced at the American Society of Human Genetics annual meeting in Montréal.

The new additions are BioInsight Platform Workflow Orchestrator, DRAGEN Ultra, and BioInsight Platform Learning Cohorts. The Workflow Orchestrator connects to Illumina sequencers and automates genomic operations from sample tracking through quality control, maintaining a single sample identity across tools to support reproducibility and audit readiness.

DRAGEN Ultra extends the existing DRAGEN secondary analysis software by incorporating Illumina AI models and knowledge resources to prioritize variants for further investigation. The tool includes a new variant prioritization model called dnaAI, developed by Illumina's BioInsight AI Lab. According to the company, applying dnaAI to large-scale datasets produced an 8% increase in disease associations across unsolved cases, and the model ranked previously established disease-associated variants among its top four candidates in 99.4% of genomes analyzed. DRAGEN Ultra is available on the BioInsight Platform as well as on customer premises, private clouds, and air-gapped environments.

The Learning Cohorts tool allows researchers to build and analyze private genomic, multiomic, and phenotypic cohorts, comparing individual findings against broader sample populations. The tool is paired with the previously announced BioInsight Data, which provides curated reference datasets.

"Researchers need consistent, scalable, reproducible workflows, AI that helps identify the samples and findings that matter most, and the ability to study those samples across increasingly large and diverse cohorts," said Rami Mehio, senior vice president and general manager of BioInsight at Illumina.

All three capabilities are available in early access through the Illumina BioInsight Platform, which the company said debuted the prior week. The announcements are based on a press release issued by Illumina.
