Aptiv and Nvidia expand automated driving collaboration
Aptiv PLC (NYSE: APTV) announced an expansion of its collaboration with Nvidia to develop automated-driving solutions using the Nvidia Hyperion platform and Nvidia Halos safety system.
The companies said the combined effort integrates Nvidia's compute technology with Aptiv's system-level engineering capabilities. One outcome cited is the ability to run advanced AI models on Nvidia Thor-based computing platforms using only air cooling for thermal management, which Aptiv claims is an industry first for Thor-based systems and is intended to reduce costs for automakers, particularly on internal combustion engine vehicles.
The collaboration is designed to support an open architecture allowing automakers to deploy AI models from Aptiv, Nvidia, or third-party developers across a range of vehicle segments and automation levels.
"Automakers need a practical path to bring more advanced levels of automation to consumers at an accessible cost," said Sandeep Punater, Vice President, Product & Business Development, Autonomy at Aptiv. "By expanding our work with Nvidia, we are combining world-class AI compute with Aptiv's proven ADAS and industrialization capabilities to deliver an open solution engineered for real-world performance, affordability and scale."

Rishi Dhall, vice president of automotive at Nvidia, said the combined platform can "help reduce system cost and complexity and bring advanced automated-driving capabilities to more vehicles."
The announcement builds on prior work between the two companies, including Aptiv's previously announced support for Nvidia Jetson Thor and Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano 2 platforms.
Aptiv said it plans to demonstrate automated driving capabilities running on Nvidia Hyperion at CES 2027.
