Pratt & Whitney Canada unveils PT9 turboprop engine
Pratt & Whitney Canada, a unit of RTX (NYSE: RTX), unveiled a new turboprop engine called the PT9 on Oct. 21, 2026, at an event in Las Vegas, according to a company press release.
The PT9 engine has been certified by Transport Canada following more than 14,000 development hours. The company states the engine delivers 33% more power at altitude and reduces fuel consumption by 20% compared to previous generation engines.
The engine features a modular construction intended to support integration with electric and hybrid thermal-electric powerplants. The company says the architecture can be adapted to various airframe types.

Satheeshkumar Kumarasingam, president of Pratt & Whitney Canada, said the PT9 is "designed around evolving customer needs, including advanced digital capabilities and future-ready hybridization."
Production of the PT9 will take place in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, which also serves as the company's global Center of Excellence for its PT6 family of turboprop engines.
