Calix adds features to SmartMDU for multifamily broadband markets
Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) announced new capabilities for its SmartMDU product on the Calix One platform at the company's annual innovation and customer success conference, according to a press release from the San Jose-based company.
The updates target service providers operating in multifamily housing markets. New resident activation options expand on existing QR code sign-up, allowing residents to activate service via a unique SSID or with a one-time code issued by a property manager through Calix's PropertyWorx tool before move-in.
A dedicated connected vehicle network is also being introduced, providing managed Wi-Fi in parking garages for services such as over-the-air software updates and in-car navigation. Access is tied to individual residents and ends when they move out.
Calix also expanded its GigaPro managed switch portfolio on the Calix One platform, which the company says gives service providers greater visibility and control across SmartMDU deployments. Planned integrations with property management systems are intended to simplify resident onboarding and offboarding within existing workflows.

SmartMDU received the 2026 Maravedis Resident Experience Award and Broadband Communities' Multifamily Technology Partner of the Year designation. Calix cited resident satisfaction ratings as high as 95% among service providers using the product.
Scott Coonfield, president and chief executive officer at VA SkyWire, a Calix customer, said: "SmartMDU on the Calix One platform makes that experience simpler for residents while giving our support team the visibility and tools to resolve issues quickly and efficiently."
Shane Eleniak, chief product officer at Calix, said: "That's why we are continuing to evolve SmartMDU on the AI-native Calix One platform—helping providers remove friction behind the scenes, scale exceptional resident experiences, and win more multifamily business without adding operational complexity."
All service providers deploying SmartMDU have access to Calix Success, which provides training and deployment support. Calix states it serves more than 1,200 customers on its platform.
