October 20, 2026 7:02 AM

Sophia Learning, an online self-paced learning platform and subsidiary of Strategic Education, Inc., announced a partnership with National University (NU), a nonprofit university, that will allow eligible NU undergraduates to transfer courses completed through the Sophia platform toward eligible NU degree programs.

Sophia Learning offers more than 80 courses recommended for college-level credit by the American Council on Education (ACE), available through a monthly subscription. The arrangement is intended to give NU students a way to complete general education requirements at a lower cost.

"National University is focused on expanding access to high-quality education and supporting students at every stage of their learning journey," said Jackie Skyrd, VP of Corporate Partnerships at National University. "Together with Sophia Learning, we're creating clear and affordable pathways that help students move more efficiently toward degree completion and career success."

Hunter Davis, CEO of Sophia Learning, said the partnership aims to help learners "save both time and money" as they work toward a degree.

According to the press release, Sophia Learning students have completed more than two million courses and been awarded more than 5.8 million transfer credits since August 2020. The platform claims students have saved more than $2 billion in tuition, based on average annual tuition at public four-year, in-state institutions as reported by the College Board Trends in College Pricing Report (2025).

National University, founded in 1971 and based in San Diego, serves approximately 130,000 learners per year and offers more than 150 online and on-campus programs.
