Kroger sets new long-term financial targets at investor update
The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) presented a multi-year growth strategy and updated financial targets at an investor event in New York on Oct. 20, 2026, reaffirming its full-year 2026 guidance issued at its second quarter earnings.
The company introduced a new long-term financial framework targeting approximately 3% comparable sales growth in 2029, excluding fuel and pharmacy, along with a 3%-6% adjusted EBITDA compound annual growth rate and a 7%-11% adjusted net earnings per share CAGR for fiscal years 2027 through 2029. All targets exclude the pending acquisition of Giant Eagle.
The new EPS target replaces a previous 8%-11% total shareholder return target, which had included dividend yield. Kroger said the updated measure focuses solely on earnings growth.
CEO Greg Foran said the company is "simplifying and modernizing" its business and focusing resources closer to the customer. CFO David Kennerley said the framework provides "a clearer line of sight from operating performance to shareholder value."

Kroger outlined three strategic pillars: investing in customer value through fresh food, private-label brands and its Boost membership program; growing eCommerce sales and retail media revenue through its Kroger Precision Marketing platform; and generating cost savings through direct sourcing, streamlined processes and the use of technology and artificial intelligence.
The company said its capital allocation strategy remains unchanged, prioritizing growth investments, financial strength, dividends subject to board approval, and share buybacks.
Kroger serves more than 11 million customers daily and employs more than 400,000 associates across its portfolio of retail food store banners.
