Quantinuum claims quantum error-correction record on Helios computer

October 19, 2026 8:02 AM

Quantinuum (NASDAQ: QNT) announced it has achieved a logical fidelity of 99.9995% on its Helios commercial quantum computer, which the company claims is a world record in quantum error correction, equivalent to five errors per million operations.

The result, published Oct. 19, 2026, was produced using a "color code" within Quantinuum's error-correction architecture. The company says the error rate is 10 times lower than its own record set in September 2026 and 100 times lower than the best published result from other hardware modalities, which was reported by Google Quantum AI using a superconducting system.

Both the September and October records were achieved on the same Helios hardware but used different error-correction codes. The September demonstration used Quantinuum's Helix code, which required 10 physical qubits per logical qubit, while the color code used in the latest study required up to 37 physical qubits but delivered lower logical error rates.

The study also found that logical errors fell by a factor of 12 each time the code distance was increased, a metric used to gauge how many physical qubits are needed to protect quantum information as error correction scales.

Robin Blume-Kohout, co-director of Sandia National Laboratories' Quantum Performance Lab, who was not involved in the study, commented: "The paper demonstrates real, serious performance gains from quantum error correction—a logical qubit nearly 100x better than its component physical qubits."

Quantinuum CEO Dr. Rajeeb Hazra said the result validates the company's path toward Apollo, its planned universal fault-tolerant quantum computer, which the company expects to make available by 2029. The company states the current accuracy performance is within the target range for Apollo.

Quantinuum, headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, employs approximately 800 people globally and operates across the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Qatar, and Singapore.
