AbbVie presents long-term IBD drug data at European gastroenterology meeting
AbbVie (NYSE: ABBV) presented 20 scientific abstracts from its inflammatory bowel disease portfolio at the 2026 United European Gastroenterology Week, held October 17-20 in Barcelona, Spain, according to a company statement.
Data from the COMMAND study showed risankizumab (Skyrizi) produced sustained clinical and endoscopic outcomes in ulcerative colitis patients over three years. At week 96, as-observed clinical remission rates ranged from 54.0% to 73.1%, and endoscopic remission rates ranged from 38.8% to 53.5% across advanced therapy-naïve and experienced patients receiving 180mg.
For Crohn's disease, upadacitinib (Rinvoq) data from the U-ENDURE long-term extension study showed clinical and endoscopic outcomes maintained through approximately four years. At week 144, clinical remission was reported in 78.9% of patients receiving 15mg and 86.6% receiving 30mg, while endoscopic remission was achieved by 47.1% and 64.2%, respectively.
Real-world data from the UPlift study showed 70.2% of 497 evaluable Crohn's disease patients achieved clinical response with upadacitinib within 12 weeks, with a median time to first response of 13 days.

A separate claims analysis of 514 patients with ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease found that patients who switched from a tumor necrosis factor inhibitor to upadacitinib had lower rates of IBD-related hospitalizations (9.5% vs. 16.3%) and surgery (6.9% vs. 10.6%) over 12 months compared with patients who cycled to another TNF inhibitor.
AbbVie also presented data on investigational dual-targeting therapy ABBV-466, which combines risankizumab with trosunilimab, an α4β7 inhibitor, from the Phase 2a TARGET-CD study in moderate-to-severe Crohn's disease. ABBV-466 has not been approved by any regulatory authority.
Additional presentations covered subcutaneous risankizumab induction and maintenance results from the Phase 3 AFFIRM study. AbbVie submitted an application to the European Medicines Agency in August 2026 seeking approval for subcutaneous risankizumab induction in Crohn's disease.
