SMCI taps former Western Digital CFO as new finance boss; shares tumble

October 15, 2026 9:54 AM

Investing.com -- Super Micro Computer announced on Thursday the appointment of Mark Long as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately.

Long will report directly to CEO Charles Liang and succeeds David Weigand, who will assist with the transition before shifting his focus to other roles within the business. The CFO change comes nearly two years after the company began seeking a new finance chief following a third-party accounting review.

SMCI shares tumbled more than 8% in early U.S. trading, though the decline was primarily driven by the broader semiconductor market selloff.

Long previously served as CFO and Chief Strategy Officer at Western Digital, where he oversaw financial management, investor relations, and corporate strategy. He also co-founded Prime Impact Capital, a technology-focused investment firm, and held a senior vice president role at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. Earlier in his career, he worked in investment banking covering software, cloud infrastructure, and storage sectors.

"We are pleased to welcome Mark to the Supermicro executive team and look forward to benefitting from his deep strategic expertise and proven leadership," said Charles Liang, Founder, President, and CEO of Super Micro Computer. "I’m confident Mark will have an immediate positive impact in strengthening and accelerating our operational and financial execution."
