October 15, 2026 9:21 AM

Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) announced that Denise Johnson, group president of Resource Industries, will retire Feb. 1, 2027, and that Derrick York has been appointed as her successor, effective Nov. 1, 2026.

York currently serves as president of Solar Turbines and as a Caterpillar senior vice president. He has been with the company for 16 years, holding leadership roles in the Oil & Gas and Marine division, as well as in finance and corporate development. Since 2023, he has led Solar Turbines, which provides industrial gas turbines and compressors for oil & gas and power generation applications. York holds a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Johnson joined Caterpillar in 2011 and took over Resource Industries in 2016. She will move into an advisory role beginning Nov. 1, 2026, to support the transition.

"Denise took on a critical role during one of the mining industry's most challenging times," said Joe Creed, Caterpillar chairman and CEO. "Her disciplined leadership restored Resource Industries to profitability and positioned Caterpillar as an industry leader in mining autonomy and technology."

Creed also commented on York's appointment, saying he "is well positioned to lead the team into its next chapter of innovation, growth and customer success."
