Republic Services, Inc. (NYSE: RSG) broke ground on a 105,000-square-foot recycling center in Bridgeton, Mo., according to a company press release. The St. Louis Recycling Center is expected to open in 2028 and serve approximately 3 million residents across Greater St. Louis and surrounding communities.

The facility is designed to process up to 45 tons of recyclables per hour and will incorporate optical sorters and artificial intelligence systems to aid material recovery.

Gregg Brummer, chief operating officer, said the project "is a major investment in the future of recycling throughout Greater St. Louis" and that the company looks forward to opening the facility in 2028.

Republic Services operates a network of 80 recycling centers across the country and reported diverting 6.4 million tons of recyclables from landfills in 2025.
