Valion Bio unit completes early NMR feasibility test with LarmorBio
Valion Bio, Inc. (NASDAQ: VBIO) announced that Velocity Bioworks, its wholly owned biologics contract development and manufacturing organization, has completed an initial feasibility evaluation of LarmorBio's BioScan-NMR™ platform, according to a press release dated October 15, 2026.
The evaluation found a correlation between signals measured by the BioScan-NMR™ platform and optical density at 600 nm, a standard measurement used to estimate cell density in liquid cultures. The result suggests the platform has the potential to track microbial growth during fermentation processes.
BioScan-NMR™ is being developed as a process analytical technology for biologics manufacturing. LarmorBio is designing the platform to provide real-time, continuous monitoring of fermentation processes through closed-system measurements, with the goal of reducing reliance on routine offline sampling.

"While this project remains an early-stage proof-of-concept, the initial results are encouraging," said Dean Zikria, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Valion. "We believe BioScan-NMR™ has the potential to provide greater visibility into fermentation processes, including information related to the media composition, fermenter environment, process conditions, and potentially product-related attributes."
Velocity Bioworks said it intends to use the feasibility results to guide subsequent development work, including assessment of the platform's closed-system and continuous monitoring capabilities.
LarmorBio was founded as a Massachusetts Institute of Technology spin-off and is developing BioScan-NMR™ for applications across bioprocessing, cell and gene therapy development, and clinical diagnostics.
