Lightspeed adds agentic AI tools for retail inventory and operations
Lightspeed Commerce Inc. (NYSE: LSPD) (TSX: LSPD) announced new agentic capabilities within its Lightspeed AI platform on Oct. 15, 2026, allowing retail customers to move from data insights to operational actions within a single conversation interface.
The updated AI system can process a retailer's catalog, inventory, sales and purchasing data to recommend next steps and prepare tasks for user review and approval. Actions include tagging unsold items as clearance, updating product information, preparing purchase orders and planning inventory transfers between locations.
Each proposed action requires explicit retailer approval before execution, and completed actions are recorded in an audit log. The company said this design is intended to keep retailers in control of changes made through the system.

"AI should make a retailer's day easier, not add another system to manage," said Dax Dasilva, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lightspeed. "With our newest capabilities in Lightspeed AI, retailers can ask a question, see what is happening in their business, decide what to do next and have the agent act on their behalf, in one workflow."
Bhawna Singh, Chief Technology Officer of Lightspeed, said: "The value of an AI agent comes from the context it has about the business and its ability to work within the systems merchants already use every day."
The new agentic capabilities are currently available to select customers through an opt-in beta program, with broader availability planned for a later date. Lightspeed is headquartered in Montreal and operates in over 100 countries.
